Wow, so if you were to try to dress some game or fillet a fish, the animal would explode into pieces? That IS handy...

I can see how useful that would be if you were perhaps cutting up a steak with that knife, the pieces of meat would shoot across the table and people could grab them "on the fly" so to speak. Gotta get one of those!

OK, sarcasm aside, didn't they sell gizmos like that to open wine bottles? Like a big needle, you used CO2 and pressed the needle through the cork, "BAM" the cork either pops out, or the bottle explodes into millions of shards of glass. I just think uncontrolled expanding gas can cause more problems than it is worth--shark defense, maybe...watermelons, no problem, but general self defense? hmmmmm......

Actually, I see 2 problems with it.

1) Fixed-blade knives are illegal to conceal in CA, and at the very least they're going to get you hassled if you carry them in the open.

2) The first time you bump that little trigger and give yourself frostbite of the nuts you'll decide it's better to carry a conventional folding knife.

I agree. For its intended purpose I think that it is a pretty neat idea and probably works well. For every day carry though there are much better options. Besides, could you imagine explaining that knife to a jury if, heaven forbid, you ever had to use it?

Dirks and daggers (double edged blades) are illegal to conceal in CA. It's not all that uncommon to find bikers and good old boys etc with a fixed blade knife on their belt. Now LA with a knife length limit may be a different story.

These thing are in my opinion little more than a gimmick. The old shark tool (forgot the name) looked more like an icepick to make penetration of a shark's hide easier. I'll go with you and pass on this thing.

Besides knowing our commissars in Sacramento they'll be illegal by January.

Actually, the penal code definition is any fixed blade. Dunno if that changed at some point, but any amount of concealment of a fixed blade is a no-no. Open carry of a fixed blade is legal in some circumstances, but people have been arrested for having their shirt cover part of the handle.

CPC 12020 (A) Any person in this state who does any of the following
is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year
or in the state prison:
...
(4) Carries concealed upon his or her person any dirk or dagger.
...
(24) As used in this section, a "dirk" or "dagger" means a knife
or other instrument with or without a handguard that is capable of
ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury
or death. A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that is not
prohibited by Section 653k, or a pocketknife is capable of ready use
as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death

It appears to have changed. The old definition was a double edged knife. It's a statute that I became intimately familiar with back in the 70s. FWIW the charges were dropped. It's the reason why I try to carefully dot all the I's and cross all the T's when it comes to weapons and always try to stay within the law.

I could see this being usefull during bow season when you cant carry a firearm. I suppose you have better chances surviving an animal attack with this knife rather a normal one.

I wouldn't even want to try and explain to a jury how I thought that a knife that causes one's internal organs to explode was a sensible weapon for personal defense.

is a Bangstick. It is a cartrige and very short barrel on the end of a pole.You dont have to get too close to use it.

There is another type of anti-shark weapon that was described earlier. It's a kinder and gentler way of killing the shark, at least for the user. Instead of blowing a hole in the side of the shark, you punch it with this weapon and it will discharge a CO2 cartridge into shark. The buoyancy of the shark is all screwed up. Instead of seeing the shark die in front of you , you can swim off with the knowledge that the shark was alive when you left it. The shark will float off and die somewhere else.
