I keep hoping they open a Turners out near me. I need to go back to work just to support my gun habit. I know darn well that with an employee discount that they'd get my paycheck back every week.

Of course, you had to post this the day after I commit to 2 keyed boxes from you. You couldn't have waited, say, a week, so I didn't feel like a sucker.

I ordered two of these with the new combo lock.

Let me tell you these are the biggest piece of crap. The frame the combo lock sits in and part of the combo lock is made of cheap plastic. I tried mine with a weapon and the lock popped right out of the housing. And basically just fell apart.

And even if you squeeze once side of the container when it is shut the other side cracks open.

Possibly you are not using it correctly?

AMS and I split 4 of them. I will admit though my first impression was the combo lock was crappy too. AMS thought it was ok.

I have not put a firearm in mine yet to test it. AMS what about you??

Okay, here is what I think. . .

Combo lock is a GREAT IDEA. This lock is Plastic! If I turn the knob to open or close when there is a firearm inside....it feels like it will break. I have to use a bit of elbow grease to turn the knob. When empty, the knob turns no problem.

The cable strap is different than older models, now both ends are the same size and its thinner. Not sure if its "better", but easier to work with.

I will not keep a firearm in my car with this COM box. I will keep the one in my office. I only use it when I can't carry while working.

I plan on writing a letter to COM letting them know I could easily break this lock off just trying to open it to retrieve my firearm.

Final evaluation. What a POS!

Pictures. . .

You could take a screwdriver and pull the plastic lock right out. It is only secured by a small metal retaining tab.

I emailed Patrick at Center-of-Mass last week telling him how I really feel about the new combo lock boxes. They always have great customer service. I will report back when I receive the 4 new boxes for Bono and me.

Here is his reply back to me:

Quote:
Mike,
New boxes will be inbound to you next week.

We made a mistake by putting the combo lock on the web before we could do our own detailed evaluation of them. They were only available for less than a week and we pulled them off the site. There are some product improvements in the works now to reinforce them a bit more. Once that is done they will be better, the next run these will have even more improvements made on them to make them even better. If I personally had control over it, these would have come with metal shafts, not Nylon. However the next run will have a reinforced Nylon shaft and will be much better.

Thank you very much for your candid and accurate feedback on these. Personally, I had a similar reaction but mine contained more colorful words to describe them though.

I'm a bit confused. The response from Patrick seem to contain accountability. I thought that accountability was a thing from the past. Congratulations to COM for stepping up and accepting responsibility for a piece of crap.
