Default Extra ID kit for CCW?

I saw an old post at one time that mentioned getting an extra copy of CDL license and keeping it with CCW paper for fast retrieval in car, motorcycle etc ....
I went to the very helpful folks at the DMV yesterday and they would not allow me to get a duplicate CDL for my motorcycle/ccw kit. I was only allowed to buy an extra California ID.
So when I have LEO contact and give him my "kit." It will only have the ID in it as oposed to the license..... if it were a traffic stop, that may casue some confusion.

I really would like to get a spare CDL, but that does not appear to be possible. Any hints?

While you should strive to keep your ID with you, I have a color photocopy of my drivers' license for just that sort of emergency.

Tell them you lost it and need a new one? Or swap them. Use the ID for whatever and keep the CDL to show to the LEO.

Also, they can get your CDL number from your CA ID when they run it.

I have 3 current copies of my CDL - one from changing my address, one from loosing it and finding it later. I also have a couple of my now-expired CDLs.

I'd like to be able to keep a copy of my CCW - maybe even red-stamped "COPY" - with a CDL in the built in overhead sunglass case. I haven't been able to move my wallet from my back right pocket, still trying to overcome 40 years of imprinting.

I'm not touching that one. We've been down that road

Not sure what you mean. Are you confusing CA ID/CDL with CCW license?

Your CA ID is linked to your drivers license. LEO runs your CA ID number and they can easily get your CDL number and see if it is valid/suspended. They are both issued by the DMV.

That's what I get for posting and preparing returns at the same time.
Never mind, nothing more to see here.....................move along.
BTW, I thought I remember something about not being able to possess both a CDL and CA ID? Just something I thought I had heard.

No. Having 2 valid DL's is a no-no, but lots of people carry DL's and ID.

Most of the ones I contact keep getting their license suspended or arrested for DUI and therefore confiscated........

Like CCWI posted, you should carry your original CCW.

However, a copy is probably better than not having anything at all. Might be worth keeping a copy around just in case - what if your wallet gets stolen and you get stopped on the way home? Or if you (heaven forfend) drop your wallet and don't realize it? I think I'd rather give the nice officer a copy of my CCW and explain to PSD later than to get hooked and booked.

Greg is probably going to yell at me for this, but I actually think I have ALL the bases covered.....

I carry my REAL CCW in my wallet right next to my CDL.

Then, in each vehicle I have a CHP 11-99 "Registration card holder" with my Registration, Proof of Insurance, My wife's 11-99 card, my 11-99 card, and (here it comes) (are ya ready for it?) a COPY of my CCW. I also keep a copy of it in the fanny pack I sometimes carry my gun in. The thought being, if I AM ROBBED, and they get my wallet (maybe theres more than one, maybe they have the drop on me, ANY NUMBER OF REASONS REALLY) I still have SOME proof of my CCW if/when I need to discuss the issue with the police.

Hmmm... I didn't think losing one, getting a copy, and finding the old one was a problem. DMV didn't say I should turn in the old one when I changed my address.

Or do you mean 2 valid DL's from two different states?

I once lost my wallet, which contained my CDL.

Went to the DMV and received a new CDL.

3 days later my wallet was found and returned to me.

Now I had 2 CDL's.

I said nothing and no one said anything to me.

By the way, if you are wondering, everything was still in my wallet, except my cash.

That's because I never carry my cash in a wallet.

In CA, you may possess both a CDL and a CA ID card. There is no need for LEO to cross-reference them through the DMV, because they already have the same number. If anyone thinks that LEO can confirm, or verify that you have a CCW permit through a cross-reference check; this is incorrect. The CCW is issued by local Police or Sheriff. The LE Dept. does not report the issuance of said CCW to either the DOJ or the DMV. There is no data base for collecting, and cross-referencing such data in CA. In a few states, there are. You can not possess more that one CDL. This is because when a person has their CDL suspended or revoked, the DMV, LEO, or Judge, confiscates it, until such time as you earn it back. It you have two or more, the confiscation point becomes moot. Furthermore, when your CDL is confiscated, the confiscator fill out a DMV form 310, and mails it to the DMV. This constitutes proof that you acknowledge the suspension, and the confiscation. If stopped again, LEO runs you through the system. It shows that you CDL was confiacated on a specific date. Now here you are with yet another CDL in your possession? Things will get real bad real quick.
