At 2-3 yards.. I run an exercise where I put a 1in paster on the target and shoot until the red is gone... that is tougher with the big dot as it completely covers the paster... I am used to sighting all of my guns in for a 6 o'clock hold with irons so when I move back to 15 the exercise actually becomes easier as MY gun shoots to the top of the front sight at about 15 yards... we are talking here about defensive shooting... minute-of-bad-guy not minute of angle... I have had no change of potential accuracy for slow fire and a tremendous increase in hits at "speed"... at this point the plan is to take the big dots to Thunder Ranch this summer to really get a work out with the xd and the sights....
I can't claim I'm blind in either eye so I will have to find another excuse
why I shoot so bad

One last question. How long did it take for you to get acclimatized to the
big dot? If I run with 1 big dot and all other notch and post will I be AFU?

Thanks for the feed back.

I found i picked it up immediately... first couple of rounds had me hitting what I wanted to hit... It took a couple of hundred to really get a feel for where the sights hit at what ranges... at least where they hit with ball... I wouldn't hesitate to make an occular shot at 25 yds with the old 5 in. xd... but it is my gun that I have shot sufficiently to know my weapon... they were very fast and failrly easy to put on.

If you have the tool for the glock, it is really easy. If not, you will need a socket driver, chuck it into a drill press and square the bottom up so that it is flat and the actual inside is at right angles to the bottom of the driver, then taper the outside diameter of the driver so that it will fit into the glock slide... takes about 30 sec. to do all of that with a file and the bit in the press.... Then fill the driver with q-tips and maybe a little gun-grease on the top q-tip... that will keep the screw from bottoming out in the driver bit and the grease will hold the screw while you carefully start the screw into the threads... and install it but don't put on too much loctite and don't screw it down too hard... firm finger tight.... will usually work.

Follow the directions from xs ... and they may send you a different system other than a screw mount for the sight...

I've lost the Way Of The Glock. I now walk the Way of The 1911 or S&W
M&P. I still have my glock ... but I don't shoot it much anymore and I am
planning to sell it soon.

Don't mention grip angle to avoid offending the Glockers ... oh crap !

Well the M&P.... is kinda glock-like anyway... I do like the grip angle better but then I am a flat-mainspring kinda 1911 guy anyway... the mp is a good gun... just can't get into the idea that I need a tool to disassemble the thing... and the glock's are energizer bunnies..... since I keep alot of guns running for our business and for my department... I am a happy glock maintanence man.......

The instructions from 24/7 were pretty good... I got the sight a little sideways on an xd recently when taking off some material to install and the sight is now crooked... so be careful when taking off material... it is hard to weld up sight that have tritium inserts....! Not that I ever needed to do that... I'm just sayin' you know...welding is .... never mind....

+1 for 1911 flat mainspring. Only have 200 rounds through my m&p. so far so
good. I have heard good things about m&p reliability. In my limited
trigger time it shoots soft and predictably so my groups are A-zone and I
don't have to re index when switching to my 1911. Virtually identical point.
I'm going to tac-tape it, like all plastic guns it gets a little slippery when I
start with movement. I was a little surprised to see my m&p times were very
close to my 1911 times after only 50 rounds. I hope that is just the start

tool to disassemble. That is a bit weird. At least the tool is always w/
the weapon .... otherwise it would be a no go.

I fill out an ID-10T form every time I try to "smith" anything. I'm going
to try to find a competent smith to install the sight and do a trigger job.
welding ... oh crap ... forget it. Which reminds me of a "funny" smith story. I
found a local guy who claimed to be the bee's knees. He is doing a small 1911
trigger job while I wait in his shop. During reassemble he manages
to shoot my slide across the room ! How he managed ... I have no idea.
I hear "sproooing" and look up just in time to see my slide sail across the
room

my g22 (gen1) has untold thousands of rounds through it. Only thing
replaced was the guide rod and mags. The plastic guide rod looked like
my dog chewed up it. Can't argue glock reliability. I was a true blue "glocker"
until recently.

Isn't glock maintanence is like the May Tag man

You have no idea what Kitchen gunsmiths and officers can do to their guns... One officer last week hadn't cleaned her barrel properly in about 8-10 years... we showed her what a jag was and how to use solvent... I couldn't get the dry patch and jag down the barrel and only barely so with a wet one... there was so much powder/copper fouling.... amazing stuff glocks... I have no idea what the pressure was in her gun when it fired but it must have been stinkin amazing....

whoa ... guess you don't have to be a "gun person" to be in law enforcement.
I can only imagine "kitchen gunsmiths". I've heard some pretty wild "mods"
and I quietly move as far away from them as I can when they start shooting.

The "hair trigger" mod always gets my hair to stand up

The new M&P 340 has the X/S front sight, but a "U" rear. At first, I too was concerned about the size of the front sight. But after a box of ammo, it's just natural and a terrific "flash" sight picture. I recommend X/S!!

I have a set of those on a pistol. Shooting large targets they do speed up the process. If you have to make a precision shot then you better start practicing. Or at least that is what I found. My standard hold was off using those sites.

Some holsters will work, some won't. It's going to be hit or miss. You'll just have to find one with a little room for the sight channel. I just placed an order with Lou Alessi for an ankle holster (THE best) and discussed the Novak sights on mine and he said it would fit fine without further modification as there was enough of a sight channel in the leather already.

If you have trouble, you should be able to place an order with a custom maker and specify extra sight channel space to accomodate the sights.
