Default Knife recommendations

I've been thinking of buying a good belt knife, and a friend showed me a Benchmade 806 that I liked at lot. Naturally, it's out of production.

Does anyone have a recommendation in that class? Folding, sub 4" blade, really good steel, strong lock mechanism, non-collectible, external clip.

I'll second that.
I have a Griptilion and a Mini-Griptilian. Love 'em both.

I have a Benchmade AFK or something like that, but it too is out of prod. I have heard good things about the griptillian and figure that is what i would get if i needed another "working" knife. Now, a Guy has some that he is a dealer for and they are NICE, but i can't remember the name. I just hate to get one because i'm pretty hard on my knives that i carry daily.

Benchmade Osbourne are nice. It has a great blade locking mechanism. Simple and secure. Great steel. Benchmade is a bit pricier than other comparable makes.

I have the commander full size right hand version in my left pocket. I like the fact it has a hook on the top of the blade so you can deploy out of your pocket in one motion and the blade is locked and ready to be used.

You wear the knife under your non shooting hand, if you like you can send it back to the factory and have the clip put on the other side of the knife so a right handed knife deploys backwards out of your left pocket. I have trained myself to deploy it forwards.

Funny you should mention it. I have my Mini set up for weak side front pocket carry and my full size Grippy set up for strong side carry for those times I cannot strong side CCW.

BTW - You don't have to send a Benchmade to the factory to re-set the clip.

Can't go wrong with Emerson, but I can't bring myself to carry my Specwar everyday. In that case I go oldschool Benchmade AFCK, handfull of Spyderco and few CRKT.

Like the gun the Knife is just tool... get one of good quality and learn how to put a decent edge on it yourself.

I have 3 Benchmades and have been very happy with all of them except the "auto" which was acquired as part of my LEO thing... I never carry it by the way as it is just not a knife that "fits" my need... I have carried one of two benchmades everyday for about 10 years. I carry a cold steel large tanto in my vest while working. I have had really good luck with them all. The benchmade sharpening program is tremendous. The emerson is a perenial favorite by those who respect a quality product.

SheWhoMustBeObeyed just bought me a Zero Tolerance 0301. While a bit heavy, it is a great blade... she got and even better deal.... but I think you can pick it up for alot less than retail.
