Anyone carring a taser? Tasers are legal to carry in California. Taser has developed a new civilian model C2 that is being released this month. It lists for $299 or $349 with laser sight. They still have the X26C model for $999. I am considering getting one to carry in addition to my hand gun to give me an option. Check them out at www.taser.com.

The C2 and X26C are not as good as the X26 or even the M26.

Why bother with a taser, you have the right to carry a loaded firearm. It will deploy easily from your holster and you will kill your BG or stop them in their tracks no matter what.
If you have time to consider which waepon to use I am not sure your life is in that much danger. IMHO stick to guns and leave tasers to LEO |

We are constantly cautioned as LEO's not to "bring a taser to a gun fight" and when we do deploy the taser we are supposed to have another Officer on hand with lethal cover if possible. Most of the time we use them it's as an alternative to using a baton which is going to break legs and arms.
I see no need for a civilian to carry a taser if they can carry CCW. If you don't need to shoot them... run the hell away!!... which is what you should be doing anyway. You shouldn't be engaging people that need to get contacted by the police. |

Sometimes we "civilians" have no choice in the matter as we get contacted by the BG first and we don't have a CCW to allow us further options. Personally, I'd rather be like Mama Possum... stay away from danger, and only fight like hell if I have to.

Notice I said "if they can carry a ccw". Also don't take offense when I say civilian, it's nothing more then a description to help clarify what I am talking about. A LEO for instance wouldn't have a need to carry a taser off duty either. Why? He can carry a gun.

I'm a limo driver with Exposed carry firearm permit, baton permit, tear gas permit (I have CCW with other states but not CA)
My primary job is protect clients (besides driving) not only protect myself. I can not leave my clients behind and just run by myself. most of incidents were happend at outside of night clubs and they were drunk and bare handed, maybe beer bottle. but I can not use firearm against beer bottle or bare handed guys, even five of Sumo Wrestlers. I also carry tear gas and used once, aimed at them few times. But I always questioned myself if it effective enough ? and there are always bystanders (include my clients) When I used it once, maybe because mist came back to me or I touched my face with hand which holded can, I couldn't drive normally for while (Especially it was night as always). I feel more confident with taser than baton or tear gas. But you have only one shot. You can continue use it as stun gun without cartridge. and you can change cartridge easily but I don't think you will be quick enough for 3 guys against you. And it's a bulky (mine is old one) Of course if I see someone has gun, I will draw my firearm. But because I carry openly, I might be a fist one whom will be shot, I always wear light (2A) body armor under my suites. |
