PTL most likely has his personal reasons to wear a vest, which could be because of conditions that he may not feel comfortable with. That's his choice and I would never fault him for doing so, after all, we are talking about possible life, or death situations.

As for myself having a CCW in Alameda County, also feel the need to occasionally wear a vest when having to travel to high crime areas, especially at night. It's not an issue of being paranoid, I just prepare for the worst, stay on high alert, and do my best to prevent myself from being in any uncomfortable situations, or scenarios.

Correct me, ccwinstructor ? Does anyone of you have one?
California law also allows me to wear a helmet while driving a car and an oxygen mask so I don't pollute my lungs breathing the air but I don't. The question wasn't if you allowed to; of course you are. There are many things that are legal, I was just asking why you feel you life is in so much danger that you need to wear a bullet proof vest 24/7. I find it paranoid behavior that is all. You have the right to do it by all means. You have your opinion I have mine.

The same can be said for carrying a concealed weapon around. Less than one percent of CCW permit holders ever actually use their gun.

Also, look at the air quality of our larger cities, it would actually be prudent to wear an oxygen mask as the air in cities is actually bad for you. Also over a hundred people die a day in car accidents (those are just US deaths), so it would be prudent to wear a helmet as odds are that you will be in a car accident in your lifetime.

Everything in life is a calculated risk, putting on a bullet proof vest is the exact same as playing lotto everyday. When your number is up you're glad you had it.

Agreed. I'm pro CCW and I find it strange that someone would wear a bullet proof vest around town just because they can. What about if they drove around in an armored car? It's legal, but I find it strange, but to each his own, I know a lot of people think I'm strange and that's ok too.

There are certain parts of LA that I wouldn't go into at night unless I was rolling my Eagle CIRAS vest, level IV armor and my LWRC. Thankfully I rarely have reason to be in those kinds of neighborhoods.

There are certain parts of L.A. I won't go into PERIOD, regardless of the time of day.

True enough. Though sometimes one doesn't have a choice in these things.

I have worn a Level IIIA vest for several years now both on an off duty. I agree get properly fitted and once you commit to wearing don't make exceptions as to when you are going to wear it. I also suggest and under armor t-shirt for use in hot weather. Make sure that the vest will at the very least stop the ammo that you will be carrying. Unfortunately to many people are shot with their own weapon. Other thing to think if you wear a vest make sure is concealed as well or you be made.
