Default Pepper Spray?

Does anyone carry Pepper Spray? I was wondering if it is legal in California. I remember them making it legal at one point but I think you had to take a class/test? Is this still the case?

If you buy the CA-DOJ approved stuff you can carry it. Spray has a 75% sucess rate. It normally just pisses people off.

I see vendors at the Crossroads Gun show routinely offer for sale "un-approved" pepper spray.

And it seems to have a 100% success rate against Cops...

Hmm when I bought my Comp Tac holster the other day I threw in some with the order. It was $9 without any additional shipping so I thought what the heck. I wonder if its CA-DOJ approved? I better find out.

I am assuming you picked up some Fox labs. I don't think they have changed their label.. It seems like a stupid law to have but here it is....

Per Penal code 12403.7

Every tear gas container and tear gas weapon that may be
lawfully purchased, possessed, and used pursuant to this section
shall have a label that states: "WARNING: The use of this substance
or device for any purpose other than self-defense is a crime under
the law. The contents are dangerous--use with care."

I know what you mean. I went on a ride along with my local PD one night and they used this on a domestic violence suspect after he ran from us. All it did was piss him off even more, but at least it made it hard for him to see the officers when they tackled him. It was an exciting night since I was able to see how the OCSD treats the uncooperative people that visit their jail. Not a nice place!

Yeah that is the one that I bought. From the Comp-Tac website. If not on label I guess its trash. Thanks for the information.

Costa Mesa PD, as part of their Citizen's Police Academy. I'd highly recommed this academy to anyone that lives/works in a city that offers this. If anyone knows someone on Costa Mesa PD, send me a PM if you want to know the name of the officer. Very nice guy and I even sent a letter to the Chief about him.

I've been on one other ride-along with the LASD. My dad is retired from there, so it was with one of his old partners working the gang detail in East LA. The ride-along was between the Rodney King incident and the riots - 1991. Very disturbing time to work as a LEO in LA county.

Unfortunately it hasn't always been this way. The chief before John Hensley (the recent retired chief) was very sympathetic towards illegals in this city. I think even Chief Hensley retired because of the recent immigration enforcement changes in Costa Mesa, although he would never admit it. Good thing our City Council is on the ball.

I recently saw an article on OCRegister.com that said the OCSD flagged 10% of their inmates for ICE in the month of January. This is almost 700 people flagged. I can't imagine how much money they are saving the taxpayers of OC now.

and Pepper spray.

I bought my mom some of this to use when she moved into an apartment complex after my parents divorced. She carried it with her all the time. However, now that she bought a place in Laguna Woods, she doesn't carry it on her as much as she used to. I think I would rather carry a taser gun as opposed to pepper spray. It works a lot better when you need to subdue someone.
