I have a 551 and a 556 Mini Griptillian. Great knives and carry when I can but I usually always have this in my pocket:
Pro-Tech Runt 2 Knife

Friends,

Like you, I became interested in knives as a youth and, over time, began to accept that -- at least at close range -- a trained person with a knife is probably almost as protected as if he'd had a sidearm. It is infinitely pleasing that so many on this forum seem to think so as well.

I've been teaching one (IMO, the best one) of the Filipino styles since earning the proper credentials from Guro Felix Valencia several years ago. Please consider P.M.'g me if I can be of assistance.

Cordially,
John

John,
I have studies a bit of Eskrima, Kabaroan Eskrima to be exact. Ramiro U. Estalilla Jr., DMA is the Grandmaster of the system. What style are you teaching? Just curious as I'm in NorCal. :-)

I carried a Boker matic till it finally wore out. Nowadays I carry a Kershaw folder.

Spicy,
How does the thickness of the handle compair to the spyderco? I really like this look but seems like it has more bulk in the handle area.

It's a little bit thicker than the Spyderco, but I barely notice it in my pocket. I have big hands, so this one actually feels better holding it than the Spyderco. I've been carrying a knife for so long though, I probably wouldn't notice it even if it was twice as thick!

I have carried my Emerson CQC7 in your basic black with the half & half blade for at least 10 years. It does everything from opening the mail to.... well you get the picture. I also keep a Masters of Defense full sized Dieter in my SAR pack. It too is an incredible knife but a bit bulky to carry every day.

Emerson Commander and mini-Commander.
I also really like Benchmade ACFK models with the older liner-lock as opposed to their axis-lock

I usually carry a Gerber EVO folder knife. It works well for what I need it for.

Well, I've been playing around with different ones since I last posted. I'm currently neck carrying a BenchMade 210 Activator (2" S30V PE blade). Bouncing between a Spyderco A.T.R. for RH carry (3 1/2" PS VG-10 blade-what an awesome knife!), & a Gerber AF covert for LH carry (3 3/4" PS ATS-34 Blade). When I want flash, I carry a Kershaw Nakamura (2 7/8" laminated VG-10 blade).

I also have a couple Emerson CQC7s, both PS 154-CM. One's a '99, the other's an '06 mini w/wave.

My EDC is a Emerson CQC 11 and a Benchmade 630. This will somtimes be backup by a HAK or a Cooglers BF Claw. I also carry a Karambit from time to time.

Brian
