Concerning SAP gloves? (still in the pursuit of a legal self defense weapon)

PC 12020 (A) comes to mind.
(1) "possesses ....... any metal knuckles ......... or any instrument or weapon
of the kind commonly known as a blackjack, slungshot, billy,
sandclub, sap, or sandbag".

I think sap gloves would be considered metal knuckles and could also be considered a sap.
Here's how 12020 defines metal knuckles:

(7) As used in this section, "metal knuckles" means any device or
instrument made wholly or partially of metal which is worn for
purposes of offense or defense in or on the hand and which either
protects the wearer's hand while striking a blow or increases the
force of impact from the blow or injury to the individual receiving
the blow. The metal contained in the device may help support the hand
or fist, provide a shield to protect it, or consist of projections
or studs which would contact the individual receiving a blow.

The best legal defensive weapon you can carry in California is OC (pepper spray).

Consider taking a self defense class.

Saps and sap gloves aren't all that great, Trentonirons. In order to use them, you have to be way too close to your aggressor. To allow a BG (bad guy) to get that close is very dangerous.

What has been said re: OC.

Is pepper spray really effective enough to stop a BG?

pepper spray is a good distraction... distract and run...not a bad choice. Doesn't necessarily work instantly... but can be a very effective tool..way better than a sap or gloves... as it can be used at a distance

It is good to be ready for all situations. I carry my handgun as well as a decent sized pocket knife and a kubotan. The knife and kubotan are my up close and personal weapons because sometimes the SHTF. In a perfect world I would be able to:

A. Get away from the BG

or

B. Shoot the BG if I cannot get away

But, it's not a perfect world so I like to be prepared.

A kubotan is a great self defense weapon, especially if you have martial arts training, but it can be used by anyone. I make my wife carry one as well and have instructed her in it's basic use, i.e. smash the nose or into the eye socket and then run while BG screams in pain. You can pick them up online for around $10 and there are some decent Youtube videos on their use. Best of all, it's legal in California!

Just my 1 1/2 cents after taxes.

It won't stop one, but will definitely make it so he can't see you (if you hit your target). Like others have said, it's a good distraction device for you to get away. I suggest to take a class for this and get sprayed yourself. It's a very interesting experience.

Not anymore, after Obama and the soon to be meltdown of Califonia's budget, I think you'll have .005 left out of the original .02

ASP makes a great decice called the "key defender" which is both a pepper spray and a Kubotan...
FWIW...

locally they are quite popular in the local gun stores and we suggest them when doing classes...and they can be reloaded...cheap...and they sell practice cartridges...very cool tool... I have one... or two laying about...
the kids are always taking them and giving them to their friends... I'm so proud of the little ones..
