Default Can I carry this knife in Ca?

I hope this is the right forum if not I'm sorry. I currently carry a folding kershaw knife concealed in my pocket but I have been wanting to carry my buck 119 unconcealed on my hip, I'm wondering if this is legal. If you are unfamiliar with the buck 119 it is a fixed blade about 6" long. I don't know about the California knife laws so that why I'm asking.

As far as I know and from observing local police talking to subjects (the un-arrested, per se), as long as it is NOT concealed and you are NOT brandishing it, you are not breaking the law. But don't take my word for it.

Keep in mind that some local communities have their own laws. Los Angeles comes to mind.

On carrying a knife like this what does the work concealed mean? The knife is long enough that if you were wearing a jacket, sweatshirt, ect the bottom of the knife would stick out is this considered concealed?

I may be mistaken, but I remember hearing that there IS case law where someone was arrested for wearing 'openly' a fixed-blade knife that was inadvertently concealed by his shirt. I'm pretty sure he gave them some other reason to arrest him, but that conviction was upheld, if I'm remembering correctly.

California law is pretty harsh in regards to fixed-blade knives, so I'd recommend a good folder unless you have a very specific reason for needing that particular knife.

At work in a gas station on the night shift...... I would open carry, or CCW if the boss allowed.

Some friendly advice - IF your boss does allow you to ccw at work - GET IT IN WRITING. Because if there is an incident at work that is a legal document with the labor board, workmen's comp, the police, etc. Otherwise employers have been known to turn around and fire you or worse for not having that signed statement in YOUR hand from them. That little piece of paper is a legal document that can save your butt.

That's a scary job that's for sure. Did you see AMW last Saturday? That poor clerk got shot in the shoulder and gave the robber money and he decided to shoot her once again (fatally). If she were armed, she could have got a shot off after he shot her once and probably survived. I hope you can CCW soon.
