You can get a G39, it's the size of the G26/27 in 45GAP. Smaller than the G30 with the same punch.

Nice, I'll check out the 39 too. Gonna shoot the 30 this week next time I get to the range (haven't been since yesterday ... UGGGGHHH!!!)
I bought the Kahr PM9 when I first got my CCW in my old state and after 3 years of carrying it it's obvious that I can conceal something quite a bit larger. At 5'8" I thought the PM9 was my only choice but I was wrong, and would like something with more punch than 6+1 of 9mm. |

Glock 30 are nice. They are very accurate. But for ME they are a little wide and heavy for serious CCW. YMMV
If you are comfortable with 6+1 capacity, you can not beat the Glock 39. Only downside I can think of is availability and price of ammo. Especially practice ammo. I have one on my to get list. The Glock 36 is also a great CCW gun. But from my experience and from wide spread feedback they are the least reliable Glock "relatively" speaking. If you can carry the 30 in comfort then go for it! But remember 10+1 of 45ACP does no good if it's sitting at home because it has become a pain to carry. |

I would carry the PM9 with the 7-round mags but have found them to be unreliable, probably due to my pinky moving it and causing jams. Never had a single failure with the 6-round though. |

I got a Glock Model 30 and a Model 39.
Got the Model 30 first as a replacement for my Model 22. Got the Model 39, after I realized that on some occasions (clothing/weather) the Model 30 was a little to big for effective concealed carry. Both are great pistols and I highly recommend them.

Ok, gonna go with the 27, having tried both and realizing that if I got the 30 I'd use the 9-rd compact mag anyway, so capacity is the same.
I was very impressed with the 27, shooting .40S&W the recoil and muzzle flip was much less than the Kahr in 9mm! |

Both are excellent choices for personal protection if I do say so myself. |

I have both the G-27 and G-23.
If you shot the G-27 with the pinkie extension, then the grip length of a G-23 is about the same length at the front edge of the grip, as the G-27. The only difference is that the the G-23 will be about a half inch longer in the slide/barrel. If you can go to a gun shop and put them on top of each other you'll see the difference, as long as the G-27 has the Pierce +1 finger extension. Remember that the grip is the hard area to conceal. With the Pierce +1 extension, in theory, you can have 10 rounds in the G-27 magazine. In practice, with the Pierce +1 finger extension for the G-27, you will not be able to have 10, it will still accept only 9 rounds. Pierce extensions are a farce!. You will have a nice finger rest, that's it!. You will be unable to add the extra 1 round, even with the assist of a mag loader. I have 4, G-27 mags with the Pierce +1 extensions, to this date I have been unable to get the extra round in those mags. You can do all the tapping on your magazines you want! Plus the fact that those extensions retail for about $10.00, in round numbers, a piece. If you get a G-23 the 2 extensions costs that you would have blown in the extensions for a G-27 could go for an extra mag for a G-23. I spent $40.00 for 4 garbage G-27 magazines extensions, the cost of that could have been used to get another 2 extra mags for a G-23. The G-23 normally carries 13 rounds and you will be able to carry 10 rounds easy in California. If you ever move to a free state, you'll be able to get the 13 rounders. Back until around 1998, the FBI was issuing P-229s, after that approximate date, FBI class graduates were issued Glock-23s. I have both and I am keeping them. If you are getting one, I'd consider the G-23 as # 1 choice and the G-27 as # 2. They are both about the same. I simply hate to support manufactures of things that do not work, I am sure they are aware of it by now. I even sent them an E-mail...no response!. They know! |

You don't think I said enough?
OK - I love my G-30! It's the best self-defense pistol available to mankind! Anyone who doesn't carry a G-30 is an idiot! Is that enough Mr GunSlut or shall I continue? Seriously - Glocks are good quality, accurate and very dependable self-defense pistols. They are not terribly expensive and they are easy to maintain. One could argue that other pistols are better for a variety of reasons but the bottom line is, the Glock Pistol does what it's designed to do in the hands of one who is willing to learn how to use it. Pick the model that you shoot the best. That will generally be the model that fits your hand the best. Some people are susceptible to flinching if the recoil or muzzle blast is overwhelming to them. If that's the case, it's better to carry a 9mm if you can hit your target with it and you can't stay on target with a .45. The G30 fits my hand well but if I had smaller hands, I'd carry a G-36. I prefer a .45 over a .40 only because to me it seems milder to shoot and because it makes bigger holes. ![]() Last edited by G30 Steve : 07-06-2007 at 09:11 AM. |
