My first handgun was a Berreta 92FS that I bought the week I turned 21.

Then I did not buy another until about 2.5 years ago when I got interested in CCW and really fell in love with the sport. The first gun I bought then was a Glock 36. I owned about 5 different models 26, 38, 39, 23.

The only one I ever had any issues with was the 36. (that is pretty common for people to have issues with 36s)

I have sold them all since and now love 1911s. But I also like the S&W M&P platform. Especially their compact firearms. My M&P 40C is a great carry gun. 10 rounds of 40 S&W. Too bad we can't get their 45C in California. I also like the full size M&P 45. 10 rounds of 45ACP!!

Well, let me tell you how I got to like Glocks.
One day I went shooting at the local range. The range had a bunch of guns for rent, mostly Glocks. I would not even get close to one. For lack of anything more interesting to do, that day I wanted to definitely "debunk" Glocks. So I saw a Glock 27 for rent there. I asked for it and noticed how "bloky" it was, this thing sticking out of the trigger, etc....weird!!!, Started to shoot a few rounds, noticed that I really liked this trigger and most of all was impressed by the fact that this little"baby" Glock was putting all the rounds in the target so precisely, I though "Maybe they have something here". So once in a while I found myself getting back to it, started doing my research on this little shooter, talked to the range operator. Same story, we never clean them, they always work, they never brake, so we let people shoot the heck out of them, etc.
Eventually I said to myself. If it works, it is just a tool, use it!!!.
So the heck with it, who care if it is "plastic", "not made here", Like the B-737, sometimes we called it the "FLUF", standing for "Fat Little Ugly F****r", yet it is the workhorse of aviation, it works!!!!
I bought a G-27 and I have never had any regrets. And by the way, I have never had to use their customer service but I hear it is excellent.
I now have a 30SF and found it to be an accurate, soft shooting gun. No arguments here.
They are like jet engines over prop driven aircrafts, they are here to stay.
So no external safety?. The safety is between your ears. Keep your fingers out of the trigger guard until ready to shoot. Back to basics! Even in low ready or when you aim the gun, finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot!!!

What issues?
I haven't had any issues with mine and bought it private party from someone who I know believes in full disclosure so I'm sure the gun didn't have any issues.

Issues were fully disclosed when I sold it. I AM SURE Only ones being the occasional FTE. All my other Glocks never happened once. But that could have been from the operator as he was fairly a newbie back then.

BTW I sold it because I bought my Ultra CDP II!

My 36 has been near perfect for 1000 or so rounds, and I really like it. It's a fairly new design...were'nt most of issues with earlier production?

Yep. Mine has 0 FTFs in ~1500 rounds. But these 1911 guys can jam anything - ask Rycerz about shooting my Glock 35.

I hear ya. My buddy picked up my 36 and FTE'd his first 2 shots. Limpy-limp wrist and bad grip that affected motion of the slide. I fixed him up and that was that.

Funny, I have a G36 that I have never had a problem with, but now that I think about it I don't think I have ever fired it...

Go to glocktalk and search G36 or Glock 36 you will find plenty of threads bashing.

That being said I think you are right it was mostly on the newer released ones.

I have not been on that section of that forum for over a year. So Glock might have worked out the issues. Probably a lot of them were caused by shooter too.

Glock or no Glock, that bucket should have a classification label to the correlation of an unstable explosive. Use at own risk.

For me, the Glock is the best gun. I am left-handed, and the Glock is very left-hand friendly. I like the accuracy, the simplicity, the ease of disassembly and cleaning when I do occasionally clean them, and another plus ... I have several magazines for my Glocks, and they are all interchangeable between the 27,23 and 22, so when a "grab a gun and go see what the trouble is" situation arises, I can grab ANY of my Glocks (all .40) and two or three magazines and know that I am ready for whatever I encounter.
