I'm not so sure about the extractor now. I had one more hit me in the head the last few nights, but I realized that it bounced off of the wall to my right and then back at me. So maybe those others did the same. It has not happened any other night and I have been watching for anything "out of the ordinary."

I'm averaging about 2 FTFs for every hundred rounds, but have been noticing they are seating higher up from the mag and into the barrel. I am going to try to narrow this down to a "faulty" magazine (mag spring) over the next few nights. Hopefully they will go away soon.

You got a bad one, ship it back...it should have some problem, builds character...

Seriously, my Kimbers seem to get better the more i shoot them, my main carry gun has now maybe close to 4000 rounds through it (just a wild guess), and it is totally reliable by this time. Had problems in the beginning, just needed to wear in a little.

Considering the numbers of problems people have with new Kimbers, i am surprised they pass the DOJ tests...i wonder if they can use broken in guns for those tests? I do not recall anything about that in the specifications of the individual test...as long as it is "as sold" i think it could be used.

Default Kimber 2011 problem or is it normal?

This incident happens to me all the time during IPSC competition. Under slide lock condition, whenever I reload a fresh magazine (hard that is..under time pressure) the slide goes into battery automatically without me pulling the slide back or pressing the slide lock. Is there something wrong with my Kimber? If I reload slowly, it does not happen. Could it be simply the slamming of the magazine hard? Comment anyone?

I have had this happen with my 1911 and have seen it happen to others. This is not a 1911 unique issue. I suspect that a combination of things is causing this. The first thing I would suspect is a weak mag spring. This would result in the slide lock not fully engaging the notch in the slide. Now combine that with a little wear on the slide release and slamming the mag in, the slide release will jump out of the slide lock notch (actually, it is the slide that is jumping off the slide release).

The simple troubleshooting is to use new mags and see if it helps. The complicated troubleshooting is to insert an empty mag and pull the slide back to lock it out. Note how well the slide lock is engaging the slide lock notch. It should fully engage the notch. Next, insert a round in the mag and then load and fire the round to slide lock. Note the slide lock engagement. If it does not engage the notch as deeply as when you manually locked it out, then the mag spring is too weak and not comming up fast enough.

Depending on the age of the gun and the amount of usage, there may be other areas to look at but the mag spring is what I would go for as the most likely cause.

This is exactly why I can not clean any gun without lots of pipe cleaners and Q-tips on hand.
