Seriously, my Kimbers seem to get better the more i shoot them, my main carry gun has now maybe close to 4000 rounds through it (just a wild guess), and it is totally reliable by this time. Had problems in the beginning, just needed to wear in a little. Considering the numbers of problems people have with new Kimbers, i am surprised they pass the DOJ tests...i wonder if they can use broken in guns for those tests? I do not recall anything about that in the specifications of the individual test...as long as it is "as sold" i think it could be used. |

This incident happens to me all the time during IPSC competition. Under slide lock condition, whenever I reload a fresh magazine (hard that is..under time pressure) the slide goes into battery automatically without me pulling the slide back or pressing the slide lock. Is there something wrong with my Kimber? If I reload slowly, it does not happen. Could it be simply the slamming of the magazine hard? Comment anyone?

The simple troubleshooting is to use new mags and see if it helps. The complicated troubleshooting is to insert an empty mag and pull the slide back to lock it out. Note how well the slide lock is engaging the slide lock notch. It should fully engage the notch. Next, insert a round in the mag and then load and fire the round to slide lock. Note the slide lock engagement. If it does not engage the notch as deeply as when you manually locked it out, then the mag spring is too weak and not comming up fast enough. Depending on the age of the gun and the amount of usage, there may be other areas to look at but the mag spring is what I would go for as the most likely cause.
