Just came back from the range and put approximately 100 rounds through it. Let's just say that I LOVE this gun! I also got a chance to shoot a Springfield Compact 4" XD 45. I liked that gun too, but nothing beats my Kimber Compact CDP II!

I always disassemble, clean and lube all my guns before firing them--at least through the field strip stage. You never know if the factory left a little bit of machining debris behind, and they never seem to properly lubricate the new guns. On old guns it is even more critical to carefully clean and inspect the parts. Just my 2 cents...

The overall weight and frame size. The height of the Kimber Compact CDP II is only 4.75 inches, while the Springfield XD Compact 45 is 5.00 inches (5.75 with extended mag, which is not allowed in CA). that extra 0.25 inches helps with concealment, if necessary. Overall, I preferred the feel and accuracy of the Kimber Compact CDP II than the Springfield XD Compact 45.

Have you tried shooting the M&W M&P 40 compact and the 45 Colt Defender yet? I have tried the 45 Colt Defender and love it but have not shot the M&P compact yet but have shot the M&P 40 non-compact and like it very well. Been thinking about the M&P 40 Compact for about 2 weeks now and I've been getting the trigger finger itch to shoot the M&P Compact. Anyone here have shot the M&P 40 Compact?? Thanks --- Ray

Take down as published, if unable to put back together, take the receiver, hold it upside down, shake it a few times, then keep it upside down and slide it on the assembled slide...... Trick department!
I cleaned mine before shooting, and then every 200 -/+ rounds. Until break in.....600 to 800 rounds. Recoil spring replacement every 1,500 as per factory recommendation. If on extended duty clean feeding ramp every once in a while. That is what I have experienced, so far with this one.

I have not shot the M&P 40 Compact. I heard that Sig Sauer makes a great 40 caliber P229. My friend has one, and I am planning to try it out this weekend.

Default Kimber problems

I'm glad to hear your kimber is working well. I just took my new pro carry II to the range, it didn't go so well. It would never feed the first round on the factory mag plus 2 - 3 failure to feeds after that. I think I'll just give it a good cleaning and oil and try again.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Kimber factory mags are notoriously poor. Switch to Wilson Combat mags and it should clear up the problem. It did for me.

Since having it, I have put about 1150 rounds of ammo through it. I guess I need to replace the recoil spring soon? I am going to the range tonight to put about 100 more rounds through. I love this gun!

I also had this problem with the factory supplied OEM mag. When I stopped using it and replaced with the kimber Tac Mags, the problem went away. However, I am not sure if it was due to the fact that I replaced the mag, or it was because it was rounds later after the break-in period.

I own and carried a M&P 40 Compact. I love that gun! Never a problem with it. Nice thing is you get the max 10 rounds in it. Shoots and conceals nice. Ergonomics are much better than a Glock IMHO and it points nice. That is the only 40 S&W handgun I have held on to.

But I switched over to the 1911/O-Frame platform
"45ACP" for carry now. Love my Ultra and Compact CDPs!!!
