Default Magazines for Kimber Ultra

I've heard a lot about feeding problems with Kimber factory magazines. I've seen a lot of posts regarding Wilson being the best replacements, but there are several different models and I don't understand enough about the differences to choose.

It appears as though there are some that will give you additional capacity as well (8 rounds as opposed to 7?), but do they add additional length. Seems to me they'd have to.

Since I finally drank "The Kimber Kool-Aid" (Yea, I was warned, but I was weak, and impressed!) I'm looking for recommendations from the seasoned veterans.

I'm picking up my Ultra Raptor II from "A Guy" next week.

Get the newer models with the metal baseplate, unless the extra couple of ounces are a problem for your back or something. As far as the 7 vs 8 round issue, it really has to do with personal preference. You do have the 'snag' issue with the 8 rounders.

45 ACP also turned me on to another good mag, Tripp Research. I bought 5 for my Warrior. Very nicely made, and work perfect, too.

When you pick up your Ultra Raptor. Have a guy get you some 7 and 8 rounders with metal baseplates (as OCRA mentioned).

I use Wilson 7 rounders for carrying and 8 rounders for backup mags.

Back up mags? What, no "one shot, one kill"?

I guess for back up mags the extra round makes sense. You already have the gun out of the holster so snagging is not the issue anymore.

Snagging or concealment especially is not an issue.

I never even took my stock Kimber mags out of the plastic. I had heard about and seen the problems with the stock mags at one of Greg's classes. I knew I wasn't going to use those.

I bought the Wilson's as well. All 7-shot mags. I suppose I should get a couple of 8-rounders for back up. I rotate my mags every few months anyway, so I never thought about getting the larger ones.

I knew this was the best source for informed opinion on The Internet.

Thanks to all for your response. Now to compare price, + tax with price with free shipping and no tax, and make a decision that probably doesn't take ANY of that into account.

Thanks again, and I REALLY like the idea of FI walking me through options.
