Testing & Evaluating the new Kimber SIS
The first thing I noticed is the the Ultra SIS is heavier (6 oz) than the Ultra CDP being that it's all steel. Six ounces adds up when carrying 15 hours a day! The new rear high profile sight does affect concealment and comfort when carrying IWB. For those of you interested in the trigger - I like the Ultra CDP better (CDP is lighter).
My major concern is that it does not have a firing pin safety like the CA approved guns. This is the equivalent of carrying a Colt Series 70 or a first generation S&W 59 or 39. Through the years, these 3 types of guns have been documented that when dropped a certain way, the firing pin strikes the primer and the round dischages. There is no Titanium firing pin or a heavy duty spring such as those in the Springfields. All that being said, the gun is sexy and the grips rock!

accuracy-wise how was it? I have to agree with you now, I think I could live with it or the pro-carry even if the initials are missing from the front end of the slide.

Well... a deep subject I am sure...
I was in the OC today and stopped by Pro-Force.. they had the govt sized SIS with the rail... held it... one heavy gun compared to the lightweigt ultra... then looked at an alloy framed kimber tac II or some such name... now that one was light.... makes a man think the SIS would be a joy to shoot but typical govt. to carry... hmmmmmmmmmm - is it anymore accurate than the regular Kimbers?

I looke at a full size last week. I really like the finish. Did not handle it, so I cant comment on the feel.
I am with X on the rear sight. I really like that blocky design and see how it can make a big difference in one-handed manipulation.

did you guys notice that the SIS in the Kimber add has the old 'ugly' rear sight on it? Looks like they woke up afer the firts few were made. Just noticed it today in American Rifleman.
