Default The Dark Side Calls - I have a Kimber Ultra Carry II

OK... So I went to the Friends of the NRA Dinner and now I have this Kimber Ultra Carry II... it is a little itty bitty 45 about which the entire County of Orange has been writing glorious reviews since I have joined this forum...

See I always liked steel full size guns, the commander... pahhh...fiddle...a nothing... a short barrel phenom...a passing side track from serious defensive firearms... the Kimber Ultra Carry II? Ha.... I laugh at the idea... why I sold my kimber .38 super commander size thingee cause it wouldn't work... and how could a real caliber, .45acp., possibly be manageable in the little alloy ultra contraption... or so I thought....my mind... logic...reason... all is lost and have I been deceived....could the Kimber UC II be a real gun? Could it shoot real 45 caliber bullets and in nice groups? Would it be manageable in rapid fire drills? with good factory ball...? Would said bullets travel at real speeds..? say faster than an american unladden(sp?) swallow? I was about to find out!

I have about 100 rounds through it.. not a bobble.. not a hiccup... not a sneeze or a gaseous grumble... nada.. zip...

The factory magazine feeds like a government employee at a free lunch bar...the two Novak mags likewise... The gun does not seem to kick... like...it is mellow, cool, soft, snuggly or something....AAARRRRGGGHHHHH... MUST RESIST THE DARK SIDE.....

Or not... it shoots about 5 in. high and 3 in. to the left at 15 yards with ball.. two different kinds... I'll try some 185 golden saber +p's in a few weeks when I decide which night sights to put on it.. and I adjust the sights to point of aim and slightly high at 15, just like I like em...

So...what am I to do.. buy the les baer... or carry the alloy wonder..? Should I give in to the dark side ... or is it dark "slide".... It calls... it sits in my safe next to Shotty and "Mini14 the Mouse and Ratta gun" and various polymer wonders and the para Ord....and it calls to me... I can almost hear it now... shoot me, shoot me... you love me...you want to wear me in a holster...AAARRRGGGHHH... who knows what may happen next... I may abandon my polymer holster and buy a ... I can say it... yes.... A MILT SPARKS REAL LEATHER HOLSTER....... or not...

The Les Baer full size ... real gun... is on the horizon... but now I must admit to the pull, the sway, the temptation to go to the Kimber... the dark "slide" calls me.........

If you like the Ultra Carry II, you will love the Ultra CDP II. The Ultra Raptor and Ultra SIS are not bad either.

I'll be praying for you. It's like drugs, you should have never tried it. Now you're hooked. We could stage an intervention?

There's a 12 step program.

The first step is admitting you have a problem. You've taken the first step

The second step is giving me your Kimber...

I'd be curious to hear how the 185 does. Kimber does not recommend anything less than 230 for the Ultra CDP II with the 3" barrel, or any of thier other 3" guns. I still have a case of 185 FN that I use with my Colt Gold Cup Trophy, if it works in yours, I might try it in my Pro Carry II. Welcome to the Dark Side, next step will be the Ultra CDP II.

Not the darkside at all, You are now enlightened.

Go with the Ultra CDP II and you will have no regrets. You know I have the Springfield Micro and the Ultra CDP II on my permit. Not only are these tiny 45s accurate and reliable, but they are a joy to carry because of there light weight.

You should have never picked up that Kimber or shot it,,,,, it is too late now.

Thanks for the great renewal class.

First, I hit the enter button before I corrected the heading it should have read: " Dark Slide..." not side... but either works...

Second... YOU READ THE MANUAL?... I could have sworn there was a local ordinance or something against that... maybe in penal code or something... like men aren't allowed to read manuals... geez... I really am learning alot by posting on this forum...

I'd love to win the special edition Kimber that they're giving away this year.
I still can't believe it got on DOJ's silly list, especially since it is for FNRA. Those that own it will be in a select group in CA.
Anyway, enjoy the Kimber!

Funny you say that. I heard if one of the VERY few SIS' in California is shown in public it just might show up missing those three components.

No, I did not get the info on the 185 out of the manual. The Colt comes with two springs, one for 230 and one for 185. Since the Kimber does not, I called the custom shop back in NY to see if they had a lighter spring or if it would work OK with the existing spring. I was told that the 3" barrel/small frame models don't work well with 185, just use standard 230. So I keep the 185 for the Gold Cup.

Ok... so now that I am considering another kimber... now that my wife has the little one... you didn't think even for a minute that SHWMBO was going to let me have the little kimber did you?

What do you all think of the alloy govt. kimber ... cdp II... the full size light weight Kimber?

Hi El Gato,

Welcome to the Kimber Club!!!

I purchased a a full size Custom CDP after I aquired my Stainless Ultra and have never looked back.

The Custom CDP is my everyday carry with the Ultra regularly carried as a second gun.

I am very happy with both my Kimbers and recommend them both highly.

Here is a link to a Range Report I did on my Custom CDP: http://www.calccw.com/Forums/range-r...html#post22333.

Welcome again to the Kimber Club!!
