Thanks - I had heard that as well. Mine made the "good" S/N list.

As I sit with my 637 in my comfy MS VMII holster .... I ordered a VMII for my PT145 ... felt odd paying $100 for a holster when then piece only cost me $335 ... oh well, can't win em all.

Think if it this way...since you only paid $335 for the gun, you saved enough money to buy the $100 VMII

Several years ago, I bought one of the second production runs of S&W’s 629 Mountain Gun in 44Mag. I’m surprised to hear that at 10K, I may have to have some service work done on this little beast.

However, I can easily say that I’ve only fired maybe 3 or 4 boxes of shells through this revolver. I’ll also admit I did list this weapon on my CCW but it’s not carried, unless I’m “Up in the Woods” with it’s companion a Winchester 94 / 44Mag.

My point is the recoil is so harsh on this light weight 4” with full-boat mags, I can’t see me putting 10K rounds through it in my lifetime.

Moderator, please let me know if I’m getting too far off topic. Maybe we can open a thread on Revolver Reliability

btw 1buba; my accord had the belts and service at 96,000 miles and at 152000 miles and counting, it'll get another around 195,000.
Don't want to take this thread off topic either, but gotta clarify a couple of things...

RE: the 10k rounds and S&W, i've seen that number in several places, and i've also seen 15k in a couple. but, none of them ted type of loads... I'm curious if they were real hot handloads or not.

RE: the mountain gun - i was REAL close to buying that one. there are a few things about the ruger i liked better (there are a couple of threads out there on it), and i was blessed that the Redhawk i was shipped has a BEAUTIFUL trigger. :-)

RE: the fanbelt. our civic will turn 100k in the next couple weeks. The specs on it call for the civic calls for later, like 116k or some weird number. It WILL be done on time. lol

Interesting, I really like the Rugers too.....though the last one i'd shot before making my decision was an older Blackhawk....I had one heck of a time hanging on to it's small grip. I think that the Redhawk was a major improvement.

Just before I ordered my Mountain Gun, I was shooting at the Bass Lake Sheriff's range with a buddy who had one from the first production.

Funny( ) we're both at about 25 yards and the targets are pinned to the cable (when there's a breeze, I hook a small fishing weight patty on a bent nail to the bottom of the target)

With Ed's 629 in hand, first shot, I blew the lead patty off to never-never land! The next shot just grazed the bottom of the paper.......at that point Mr Ed walks up and gives me a hearty pinch on the right armpit and informs me I'm anticipating the recoil and pushing the barrel into the dirt.

He said when using the 4", just grip firmly and let the recoil push straight back in your hand...............Yes Sir....The next four all near the 10 Ring.

Sorry for the long story, but that comfort is what sold me on the S&W in this case.

I have the 4" Redhawk, and he was obviously right on the recoil. I'm sure you mountain gun is sweet, btw. :-)

I wouldn't buy either Taurus is not a quality firearm. They have had the the highest return bad out of the box of any firearm I've seen. Not just one model but the entire line.

The range where I shoot runs through 40k a week of their reloads and whatever the customers bring in. There is a gun store down the street that pushes Taurus. YMMV

That being said get the heavier one it will hurt more when you throw it at them.

Good luck.
