Default Concealment suggestions.

I am currently carrying my Springfield XD 45compact w/4"barrel in a DeSantis- Tuck This IWB holster. I am still new to all this and was wondering about any better options. Thanks MJREGI

I carry the 5 inch XD Tactical 45acp... daily in a custom holster by Threatsolutions... he is a little slow though...
From what I hear, TT gunleather or the Milt Sparks or the comp-tac are all comperable.

Welcome to TSC Holsters

I find IWB holsters, with the belt clip on the top of the holster, instead of off-set fore and aft of the holster are less comfortable in that the holster moves all day long. Having two attachment points is more comfortable and eliminates the constant adjustment of the gun which is another way of printing.

Milt Sparks Versa Max 2. I use it for my Kimber Custom CDP II (full size) and my Kimber Ultra CDP II (3"). I also have one for a 4" (It will be empty until the funds come in for the Compact CDP II). The biggest problem...........the wait, that's why I already have the 4".

I carry the same make and model as you in a Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC Holster. Wait time was about 7 days. I like it a lot. I can wear it comfortably all day. I wasn't a big fan of Kydex before I bought one. If I'd had the patience and wanted to spend additional funds I'd have probably bought a Milt Sparks. I've not been sorry of the choice I made.

A Bianchi vertical carry leather shoulder holster is what I use at times for my full sized Colt model 1911 .45 a.c.p. or other listed CCW weapons. I can attach the Bianchi dual magazine pouches on the other side of the rig. I also use IWB leather holsters, depending on the situtation. I am not a big fan of composite/ plastic holsters!

I have found that what ever you decide upon, it will take a few days to get used to the weight and size of your firearm. Find what feels most comfortable for you, and then go from there.

Thanks for the input. I a slowly getting used to the IWB that I have. I am looking in to a shoulder holster as an other option now. But I want to get used to be comfortable with the IWB as I think will be my primary form of carrying.

I use the MTAC as well. I found the VMII to sit too high above my belt line when carrying short-barrelled Glocks (like the 27). I love my MTACs though, they're all I use anymore.

Trust me, IWB is better than a shoulder holster. It can conceal when a shoulder holster can't. I have used both, plus an ankle holster(totally bogus BTW)and have to say IWB is the best. You may have a different experience but I would bet you end up with the IWB as your primary holster. I made my own, I didn't like the options that were offered(although some new ones are quite impressive) and so ended up sewing my own from leather taken from some old boots. If you choose an IWB try to get one hat has two belt loops, these are the best. Enough said, I am sure you will eventually make up your own mind as to what works best for you.

Im 37 years old, and have been carrying since I was 11 and Ive used Shoulder Holsters (love em on the rare occasions a I wear a jacket) Ankle Holsters (love them as well on the rare occasions Im wearing PANTS) IWB (Not such a big fan because I dont wear enough clothes to cover it reliably) Fanny pack (its ok... Better than IWB, but Ive got to carry that heavy thing around), SOB (Not too bad, but I always fear Im going to cripple myself doing it, and has a lot of the issues of IWB)...

Its all personal preference.

each person is different. I choose IWB and Ankle Carry. Ankle carry is Great!

As far as I am concerned, IWB has no issues compared to other types of carry. Shoulder holsters, I wear them in the winter, but summer is definately out, unless you like wearing a coat in 110 degree weather, ankles, the pants always bulge around the ankle because I have large muscular legs, especially the calves. In my opinion, IWB is the best holster for most concealed carry, the one that hides the best. Not your choice? Fine, but it is my choice and I gave my opinion. BTW, it is not always a personal choice, some people love shoulder holsters but print through during the summer. This will get you jailed and your CCW revoked in some parts of CA. So, the deal is this, choose what conceals the best, not necessarily what feels the best.

Is there a major difference between muscular and just plain chubby?

Body type and what you'll be able to wear will help determine what works best. I have a "tuckable" IWB that I can wear most of the time with whatever I wear. I have an OWB paddle that I can wear more comfortably in the cooler months. Up here in the foothills, a long sleeve plaid flannel shirt untucked doesn't look out of place and is forgiving to printing, but down in the valley might make you look like you're from "the hood".

I've toyed with the idea of a shoulder holster for when I'm on a long range motorcycle ride, but just haven't had to address that situation seriously yet. I'll need something that hugs close but doesn't force me to go a size larger than the leathers I already wear. Because I'd be stopping in the desert as well as mountain where it's cooler, there would be times that removing a leather jacket, even if just long enough to have a sit down lunch would leave me wondering about a transition from shoulder holster carry to something a little less conspicuous.
