FTA teaches a CCW class, and also the CA CCW class. The first one deals with the techniques and tactics of carrying concealed. This class does not satisfy the training requirement for the CA CCW (although this is good training to have if you are going to carry concealed). Since this class is a more advanced class, the General Handgun class is a prequisite.

The second class is the CA CCW class. This is the required training for a CCW once you are approved for further processing. This class does not have a prerequisite.

That's not what they told me when I called them. And that applies to the FL/UT classes, too.

I suspect that the person you talked to (whoever it was) thought you meant the CCW Night Shoot class. I've taken both classes, and there was no prereq for the CA CCW class (multiple times).

Nope, I was checking up on a rumor (a friend of mine just took the FL/UT from them) and asked about taking the FL/UT CCW class. Thte lady, older sounding, told me I HAD to take the basic handgn course one day and could take the FL/UT class the next day, 8 hours each. IIRC, the Fl/UT was also after the CA CCW class. I then asked if the CA CCW class was for a CCW or just training. She replied it was for those who are applying for a CCW, and that is why the FL/UT is on the same day.

Too much misinformation here.

Bill's starter is General Handgun. It is is a 2 day class. He offers a California Concealed Weapon class which is exactly that. Two days. Details per my previous post.
FTA also offers a CCW Night Shoot, as Gimpy stated.

The only one of the 3 mentioned above having a prerequisite is the CCW Night Shoot.

I can not comment on the FL/UT, since I have never looked into that. I will ask Bill next time I see him or ask Brenda if I get a chance.

Please do, because I was specific in my request and I am sure the above is what I was told. I even pointed out that I had taken several classes above Basic with another local trainer and that did not matter to her. (might have been Brenda) The info I was given confirmed what my friend encountered, as well. He ended not taking any classes because of this. (this guy was in the 1st Cav!)

Yes. And another part of the confusion is that the FL/UT class is covered as part of the General Handgun class, i.e., the shooting you do in that class covers the qualification shooting required for the FL/UT CCWs. So, it's not so much that General Handgun is a prereq, as that the FL/UT CCW is done in conjuction with that class.

Here is the skinny per FTA's latest flyer.

Utah and Florida CCW is held monthly following the general Handgun Course and Ca CCW. Class is form 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Summary: The class is for FTA students only. 2.5 hours classroom time. A notary is present (paperwork). The cost of the class is $100 and is a fundraiser donated to the pro second amendment cause.

Hope this clarifies the issue.
