It'll happen. And the laws of chance say it will happen at the worst possible moment, in the worst possible way.

A poster on the sigforum reported that the firing pin on his LCP broke while he was dry firing it.

Apparently, you should not dry fire the LCP unless you are using snap caps otherwise it will damage the firing pin.

Do you know if it is legal to buy the LCP from a relative in another state if they ship it to a FFL?

Thanks

if NOT on CA DOJ...cannot purchase pistols from out of state. California residents must purchase an already registered gun from another CA resident

Bingo. If it is not already legally in the state. Then it must be on Cal DOJ approved list.

Thank you! Don't you just love California gun laws? I keep thinking I found the gun I wanted to get for CCW, only to find it is not CA approved. Last one
was the new Walther PPS.

Can you recommend (or refer me to another thread) a quality firearm with similar features to the LCP that would be good for carry.

I have my CCW application and I need to choose my carry gun. I wanted to do that before submitting the app.

Thanks again for your help!

Give the Kahr PM9 a try; it's not much larger than the LCP and it's quite manageable. 9mm is a better caliber than 380 any day.

PS: Don't wait to submit your app. It's super easy to add guns later, so as long as you have one to put on your permit, get the ball rolling.

I'll second the Kahr PM9. About a year ago I was 3 days into a DROS on a NAA Guardian .380 when I got the call, "Ugh, you're not law enforcement by any chance are you?"

"No."

"Well, we can't sell you the NAA Guardian. It came off the list and we didn't realize it when we sold it to you . . ."

The Kahr PM9 was my consolation purchase and it's been reliable and accurate. It wasn't what I wanted but in many ways was much better than what I wanted. I'm still burned about the Guardian though but short of a PPT or moving there's not much I can do about it. Such is life in California . . .

No personal knowlege of the PM9, but I have the PM40 now as my primary carry. VERY happy with it. I only wish I had the night sights and the blackened slide, but I may get that done someday.

I have a PM9 with night sites. Love it.

Make sure you use the slide stop lever and don't sling shot slide. "read manual"

Also give it 200 rounds of break in.

It is just like your HSC card, it's about money. If you don't pay, you can't play. In the real world they call it extortion, in their world they like to call it a testing fee..

I hear ya. But remember they also want certain features on the HGs too. Like mag disconnect and loaded chamber indicator. That is keeping as many HGs out of the state as the testing fee/procedure.
