BATFE... and insurance... if you think your insurance is crazy... try being a small ammunition supplier... you are building small little bombs that people put in their guns and have wonderful little controlled explosions....

Actually I have no idea what the insurance bill would be....

As an instructor, it is not insurmountable... but then I have never had a claim against me... thank God...

Hey El Gato, so how much $$ did your whole setup cost you?

I'm currently using a Lee Turret. It works OK, but it is SLOW.

I'm THINKING of getting into IPSC and if I do, I will probably get a 650.

I haven't priced the stands at Dillon but a friend of mine used a stand from Harbor Freight for his and it works just fine.

I don't remember exactly but it was about 1400.00 with a couple of holsters 2000 copper coated bullets some media... a seperateor... all the bells and whistles for 45acp...

I can load 700 rounds or so an hour if I don't have problems like stuff stuck in my cases... or 45acp rounds with small primer pockets mixed in with the large pocket stuff... blowing up my primer tubes... you know the usual distractions...

after buying 5 boxes of WWbox at wallyworld tonight .... for a class... at 30.00 a box... it don't take long to pay for it...

Hi,

I thought about that too when I was first getting my XL650 up and running. I figured that it would be a great way to further cut the cost of my habit (buying components in even larger quantities, tax deductions, etc.) but then a guy that was getting out of that business clued me in on the liability thing and then he mentioned something about "excise tax" and it sounded like it was going from bad to worse.

So ... be very selective as to who you "help out" with cost reduction of ammunition.

Default XL650 vs. 1050

Goal: I want to get a press, and reload my .40, my .45, and my .223 for starters.

I am looking seriously at the Dillon 650, but that 1050 looks really great ... I saw a video on YouTube where it was motorized! Is that a Dillon "accessory" or was that a home brew mod?

I am thinking of reloading not only for myself, but for a side income, perhaps even on a larger scale.

I read about presses and dies and feeders and such ... and tumblers? Do spent casings need to be tumbled?

Can someone either make up a list of what I would need to accomplish this goal, or point me to a link? I suppose I could just send an email to Dillon, and I'm sure a salesman would be glad to tell me everything I "need."

I am also looking into casting my own lead. All I have been able to find is single or four-bullet molds. Surely there are larger capacity options out there! Suggestions? Links?

Thanks in advance
Hi There,

I think that you will be much happier in the long run with the XL650 as it is much more versatile in the number of different calibers that it is adaptable to. A good source to order from is Graf's in Mexico, MO. They have a discount program that you will certainly qualify for and FLAT RATE shipping. Add to that NO TAX (as long as you are not in MO) and it is a screaming deal. One word of caution though - a friend of mine called there to order a 605 after I spent two hours lining him out on what he needed and the sales guy talked him into a 1050. That was a "bad plan" for what this guy needed. Oh, well .... If you would like further info feel free to email me "off line".

P.s. On the "reloads for sale" idea - look for the addition that I tagged on to the gent's reply that reported the BATFE is the place to go.

Crisp Triggers to all!
