Cool gun, the grips are terrible and do not match the gun at all... I don't know what Sig was thinking, but it seems you agree with me. May I recommend something? Sure, the Hogue rubber grips are nice, but if you want something with more grip to it, Hogue also takes the factory P220 plastic grip panels and recheckers them for more grip... consider it. I haven't bought a set in a long time, but IIRC I just called up Hogue and they mailed me a set for $30 or so.

What is different about the Combat model besides the color and standard night sights?

Here, email Ken at Hogue about the recheckered plastic Sig grips...

ken@hogueinc.com

I had them on an old P220. I run Nills German walnut stocks on my custom Sigs, but the Hogue recheckered plastic grips are very functional and a big improvement over the slippery factory checkering pattern.

The internals are chromie . The coating is also able to withstand the elements and rust, thus "combat."

Very cool. If you haven't bought grips already, another recommendation I have is a set of Nills, from Germany. MacTech Military Arms is the official US importer for them... google MacTech for their website. They are bar none the finest for any Sig, IMO, but about $110 per set. Here's pics of them on my GrayGuns custom P220-R and P226-R. Both have Bedair guide rods, GrayGuns Competition packages (trigger job, short reset, etc) and Warren Tactical sights.

(in case someone notices, since it's happened before, that's a nylon thread from a gun rug under the takedown lever on my P226R, not a "hair from down there", lol)

Oh, and here's a pic of the recheckered Hogues on my P220ST.

Wow, those are nice!

I ordered a set of Hogue recheckered grips last week. I should receive them sometime soon. I'm also changing out the screws, like yours, to hex... the whole "flathead" thing just doesn't do it for me.

I'll post pictures up when I'm done.

Oh, another question... did you apply loc-tite to the screws before putting them in? I've head different opinions on putting loc-tite.

Nah, no Loctite, although the P220 screws came loose once and I lost a grip washer. Sig sent me a whole bag of them, for free... and I lost the bag. LOL

The P226R still has flathead screws, because for some reason, Nills designed their P226 grips so that they will not work with the aftermarket hex screws. Those slotted screws came with the grips, and I think they're longer than OEM or hex head screws. I have no idea why.
