Default Sig P239

Considering buying one of these as a good concealable firearm for when I get my CCW. Anyone have any opinions about this partcualar weapon and which caliber has the best overall accuracy and feel?

Funny you should bring this up.
I was checking the net, looking into one of those yesterday. Everyone seems to like it.
Test drive before you buy!

I absolutely love mine. I have one in 9 and like the extra rounds that it affords in that caliber (8 + 1) as compared to the larger 357 sig and .40.

It shoots as straight as any sig out of the box. I recommend getting it with night sights.

Only thing is that its balance is a little top heavy but easy to get used to. Also, it is not the most compact or lightest 9 package out there if concealability is paramount to your carry. I am willing to forgo that for the reliability, accuracy and comfort I enjoy knowing that I have a Sig on my hip.

Another thing, the extra mags are pricey at $40 a pop. So consider this if you plan to use it as your carry with extra mags.

I still highly recommend it.

I think I will have to go and try one out. Price is not a factor, as I don't think you should ever go cheap with something that could potentially be a life saver. I use this logic with pretty much any major purchase, I.E. Cars, Guns, Scuba Diving Equipment. When your life depends on it, you never go cheap, and by cheap I don't necessarily mean price, but quality and I know sig makes very high quality firearms, they just happen to be on the pricier side.

It's what I carry, and I like it a lot. Mine's a 9mm. A friend just test fired a 239 in .357 Sig, and loved it. He also shot up some jello... His conclusion: "It is definitely a keeper."

I qualified on my buddies for the .357 sig/9mm/40 cal calibers. I liked it, but then, a 9mm isn't much worse than shooting a .22lr. The greatest thing about it is all you have to do is switch out the barrel for a caliber change!

Default P239 alternative

For anyone looking for a single-stacked SIG in 9mm (and doesn't mind going used), the old 225 may be a viable alternative. I've seen them at Turners for about $450. AIM shows them for $259.95

AIM Sig Sauer P225/P6 9mm Pistol Sig Sauer P225/P6 9mm Pistol

---- P239 ------
Length, overall 6.6"
Height, overall 5.1"
Width, overall 1.2"
Barrel length 3.6"
Rifling twist 1 in 10"
Rifling grooves 6
Sight radius 5.2"
Weight, w/o magazine 25.2 oz.
Magazine capacity 8 rounds

---- P225 ------
Length, overall 7.1"
Height, overall 5.2"
Width, overall 1.3"
Barrel length 3.9"
Rifling twist 1 in 10"
Rifling grooves 6
Sight radius 5.7"
Weight, w/o magazine 26.1 oz.
Magazine capacity 8 rounds

I carried mine for the first time last week (out of state). Here are my thoughts:
  • Very nice to shoot (.40/.357)
  • Very flat profile - actually seems to conceal pretty well for me
  • It is a little thick - at least compared to my 1911 usual carry
  • DA/SA is definately a bummer compared to my nice crisp single action Kimber Ultra CDP
  • Not the lightest gun, but not too bad on the belt

Overall, I'm going to stick with my Kimber. It may replace my Glock as #3 on my permit, but we'll just have to see. It seems to be a very likable gun - after I shot it, I had to have one, and my brother is looking for one now after shooting mine recently.

I like the 239. My problem is that the grip is a bit too narrow for me (I have large-ish hands) and find it just a little awkward to grip properly. My 229 on the other hand fits like it was meant for my hand

You will NEVER regret buying the best quality you can afford...

The idea of buying cheap scuba equipment is a really good analogy... the thought kinda freaks me out man... the same should apply to my guns... I think I just decided to sell my Springfield 1911 to go towards a Les Baer...

So right, you should dispose of that terrible Springfield 1911 AT ONCE!! I offer to take it off your hands, JUST AS A PUBLIC SERVICE!!! I can sacrifice a small bit of space in my safe, just to help you out!

I found this on another site - not sure how true it is, but it makes some sense....

A version with a different hammer was also made for the German police. The hammer has a cutout under the spur so that if the gun is dropped repeatedly on the hammer, the spur will bend and the mechanism can be checked to see if it has broken. I'm not quite sure what this says about German police training!
