Talking Glock 22

Well, in 10 days I will be in possesion of my new Glock 22 (my first gun)! I am so excited and this will probably be the longest 10 days of my life. I got a really great deal as well, after all taxes and fees I paid $496.38. I can't wait to get out and put a few hundred rounds through it. After I left the gun shop I went by Wally World and picked up a box of WWB 100 rounds for 21.88. Is that the going rate at all Wally Worlds? I can't wait, my buddy has a ranch where he has a bunch of targets set up. I will keep you all posted on what I think after I take it out for some range love. Oh, another question; what are some good sights to upgrade to from the stock ones?

Super congrats on the new G22!!! Nice choice for a great range and home defense gun. Now go back to Wally World and buy some more ammo for that new baby. Yes that is the going price. Best you will find.

Enjoy!

Good for you. The 22 is a good weapon-- standard issue for our friends at the FBI and DEA. Just be careful-- the single action only design can be a bit tricky for beginners, especially with the lack of any sort of safety or decocker.

As for night sights, I prefer trijicon, but that's not the only choice by far.

A Glock 22 was my first firearm too. And you got a great price!

I've checked at a couple of Wally Worlds in OC and $21.88 seems to be current rate for 100 rounds of WWB .40 shorty.

Try the factory sights before you replace them, you might decide to leave them on. I did just fine with the factory sights for years but replaced them a year or two ago with Trijicon tritium sights. Meprolights are supposed to be good tritium sights, and there are a bunch of others that make good adjustable sights.

Since I load my own practice ammo I added a Bar-Sto stainless steel barrel. It's much easier on the brass cases and as an added bonus gives my G22 that pimped-out look.

Go for some Trijicons when you get a chance. If your going to use this gun as your home defense gun that is. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with the Glock factory sights for range use. I've just switched over to Glocks myself and really like the simplicity of them. They are replacing very nicely tuned defense style 1911's, so switching to them was no small choice for me.

Good luck and good choice. Oh and if your like me, a G17 or G19 is in your future to not only save on range ammo expense, but also to just have another Glock.

Yes, that's all you need to do. You can also shoot .357 sig if you use a .357 conversion barrel, but that round is more expensive than .40. You can use .40 mags for the .357 round since it's essentially the same round necked down to a 9mm.

Go to glocktalk.com if you haven't discovered it yet. You'll find a lot of good info there regarding Glocks.

From what I hear yes. You can pick up a conversion barrel for a little over $100. I don't think you have to change out the spring.

I am trying to stock up on some ammo before i go pick it up on the 19th. What is a good self defense round? I am thinking either the Cor-Bon or the Triton 135 gr JHP (if I can find the Triton around here). Any other suggestions?

Winchester Ranger SXT 165gr.

Accept no substitute.

Corbon DPX is another good choice also, if you cannot find Winchesters SXTs. All copper bullet which is OK to carry in those areas where lead bullets are prohibited. Has a terrific ballistic record.
Speer Gold Dot ammunition is also an alternate good choice.
Congratz on your Glock 22. Glock, the AK of handguns.

The Winchester SXT is what our County (LA County) issues to the County Police Department (guys who patrol parks and hospitals). I'd imagine LAPD also issues it as their contract is with Winchester also. I carry the SXT in my .45 and 9mm and have no concerns about it. My Dad goes with Speer's Gold Dot becuase he is a NYPD fan.

I'm partial to the Federal HST 180 and 165 grain, myself, but the Ranger SXT (NOT! the "Supreme SXT") is also a good choice. You can mail-order it online very easily if you can't find it locally (or don't 'know a guy').

enjoy your new-found magic tupperware powers!
