Default XD

I am listed my Springfield XD 9mm with the 3 inch barrel as one of my three. It is one of the smallest guns I own and I bought it simply because it was the only compact I could hit anything with. I know this is mostly trial and error as far as what will work for most people, just curious what peoples criteria was for choosing what they carry. I am having a IWB holster made and am planning of carrying at 4-5 o’clock when I am out and in my center consol of my truck when I drive. It has the belt clip instead of a loop so I can slide it in my pants when I exit my truck. Any tips would be appreciated.

One very important tip, don't forget to take it out of the console.
It can happen oh so easily. However, I think most of us just leave it on the belt.

Ok here we go again. LOL Have you shot the Kimber Ultra CDP II?

Other than that your plan is flawed. You need to keep that baby at your side. Removing the holster with your CCW in it and placing it back in place IWB everytime you get out of your vehicle is just not going to work in the real world. You will be made by someone in record time.

It's hard enough getting out of your car/truck with your IWB holstered CCW and not telegraph you are carrying by adjusting your belt etc etc.

BonoVox is correct.

Carry on your person as often as you can and anywhere you legally can.

Once you have a CCW, carrying a firearm on your person should become a part of your state of "Normalcy".

You should get to the point where carrying your firearm is a regular part of your routine, like putting your watch on or placing your wallet in the same place when you get dressed.

Once carrying a firearm becomes a part of your state of "normalcy" those little mannerisms or habits, like adjusting your belt or hitching up your pants, that could potentially get you "Made" will become less and less prevalent.

This takes practice, time and experience. Removing your weapon when you get in your vehicle then donning it again when you exit your vehicle will eventually result in some unwanted attention from the local populace and possibly the local LEOs as well.

If comfort or access to your weapon are a concern of yours, I recommend looking at different carry options as well as reassessing your wardrobe.

Good luck in acquiring your CCW. There are a lot of great people here more than willing to help you, not only in aquiring your CCW, but also with the lifestyle changes that come about as a result of having one.

Thanks again,

Great stuff!

I would be more likely to remove my CCW from holster and replace it in a pocket style holster, if you feel like you must put it in your center console while you are present in the vehicle

However every time you fiddle with that baby it adds another chance you could either be made by somebody, or god forbid have a ND in your vehicle. It's best to place your CCW in your holster and not take it out of it until you get home, or for some when they go to bed. Or of course if you are forced to download it to enter CCW prohibited locations.

ND=negligent discharge!

IE, a hole in your vehicle floorboard if you are lucky. Depending on your luck, it gets worse from there!

I carry an XD9 SC as one of my three and Don Hume makes an OWB that is extremely comfortable and can be worn at the 4 position all day and shifted on your belt to the 3 when driving for more comfort. You won't know it's there. I've put several 1000 rounds through the XD, get comfortable with the holster you'll carry daily, it'll grow on you as it breaks in. I agree with previous post, never take it off unless it's an area that's not legal to carry in.

Hey Rod. Ask the questions. We have all been in your shoes before. What you think might work and what ends up being practical are usually not even in the same ball park. Me personally, I have changed up combinations of carry rigs and carry firearms a lot of times. Now I think I have it down. It has been almost a year now and I AM A SUPER ROOKIE COMPARED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD!

Try to listen to some of the suggestions here. Yes we all know some you might be able to afford, but some you may not. But in general, we will at least send you in the direction of something that is at least serviceable and not going to be a safety hazard to you or others.

Then you can work your way towards the Cadillac of CCW. What Cadillac ends up being for you.....could be a 180 from what it means for me. As we always say YMMV. "your mileage may vary"

Good luck my friend!

When it comes to Skill at Arms there is no such thing as being "Over Trained or Over Educated" Sir.

I think CCWI should give BonoVox an extra Gold Star on the board by his name!!!

Thanks,
