AFAIK, there are no real restrictions, at least statewide. I don't think anyone will let you put an AR or AK pistol on your permit, but otherwise, it's county by county. Some have caliber minimums, some won't allow lasers, mods, etc, and I think some only want to list rostered guns on the permit (not sure on that one though) lucky for you, Sac Co doesn't seem to care. If you can buy it legally, even PPT an off-roster one, you can probably list it.

Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale - Firearms Division - California Dept. of Justice - Office of the Attorney General
It is NOT county by county. Counties may have certain restrictions, such as lasers etc but the state roster trumps county restrictions. Certain guns that are not included on the approved roster may be purchased via PPT from an in state seller. IE: My carry gun is an HK 45c, it is not on the approved list. I purchased it from an LEO, they are exempt from that list.

I think the question was weapons approved to be listed on a CCW, not to be sold...At least that was how I was trying to answer it.

there is no list for carrying, but your IA may not want you to carry that 1889
H&R top break in .32 and some counties may limit caliber and the only list is the silly oxymoron safe gun list for Cal which btw has nothing to do with which firearm is approved for cc the safe list is found here Bureau of Firearms | State of California - Department of Justice - Kamala D. Harris Attorney General

I am a little confused by your answer. Are you saying that this roster/list is what counties use and only what is on this list may be carried? Or are you saying that the counties may not restrict the firearms that are on the roster/list? Here inFresno the sheriff had said in the past that she would not consider the roster/list in determining if the firearm was eligible to be placed on the CCW permit. If you can legally own it and register the pistol with the state than it could be placed on the permit.

My buddy got his permit issued in Sacramento County recently and got is Ruger Blackhawk in 45 long colt with the 5 1/2" barrel listed on his permit. It weighs 40 ounces. I certainly couldn't hide it on my body with the way I dress. It is what he shoots and is comfortable with it. For him I think that is an awesome carry gun.
