Default New Kimber ultra carry range report

I just got my new ultra carry2 with night sights last friday. I finaly was able to get to the range yesterday. I was very pleased with the recoil on the first shot then it was FTF. I has several FTF in the 100 rounds most were in the first 50. I read this could be in part a stock mag problem? I need to get several new mags for a training class I will be taking which should I get? When I got home I field stripped and cleaned the gun for next time.
Thanks

I believe that the manual will say something about 500 round break in or something like that. Things need to work themselves into place Btw, FTF as in fail to fire or feed?

I mean FTF as failure to feed. So I guess I need to shoot another 400 rounds, I caould think of worse things to do.

CCWI recommends using after market mags (Wilson) with Kimbers.

I get to pick up my new Ultra CDP II next Friday. I did talk to Dennis at the Kimber Custom shop about ammo as I am use to using 185 Gr flat nose in my Gold Cup Trophy, but it comes with two springs, one for 185 Gr and oe for 230 GR. Dennis said not to use the 185 Gr, only 230, also to put 200 round nose through it for break in. I'm not sure if it was in the manual or if Dennis told me, but you should break it down and oil it prior to using it for the first time. Dennis also suggested Remington 230 Gr Golden Saber as a tactical round after the break in.

take the stock mag and compare it to a wilson combat. You should see a difference in the angle that the round sits at as it gets fed. Wilson Combat brings it up at a lot better angle.

I am also picking up my new Ultra CDP in about 8 days. I will report the outcome. Also, I am told Kimber has a new mag. better than Wilson.
I bought one for my Pro CDP and it seem to be working well.

I've put ~800 rounds now through my Ultra CDP II and had only one FTF in the very first 100 rounds...nothing since. Good luck I guess

I've had a UCII for three years now and shoot it often. It really likes the kimber tac-pro mags (even more than wilsons) and blazer 230 fmj for the range. For SD, i use hornady 200 gn xtp. this combo works well.

Hi All,

I'm another newbie. This thread is great for me as I expect to pick up my Kimber Ultra CDP II in the next day or 2, so I am also very interested in the "break-in" requirements. Thanks for for the input.

Shoot for 500 rounds. In the first 100 or 200 it might actup, after that it should be great.

Now an owner of three Kimber CDPs. But new to Kimbers as I have bought these three in 90 days, I have noticed they come dry from the factory and a bit dirty. I think a field strip, a good cleaning and a good lube is a good way to start.

Of my 3 CDPs I have yet to have a malfunction after following the above procedure. All 3 have worked through the "break in" period without a hitch. I LOVE them!!

Oh by the way I have left the Kimber mags in the box it came in. Only Wilson mags have seen live fire in my Kimbers! To great success!

+1 on Wilsons.. upon CCWI's recommendation... never used the stock mags... almost 1K rounds through my Kimber and not a single FTF (knock on wood).

Kimbers new mag, is not new. It's that standard mag for the super match. They suck. Use Wilson mags only.

I'm very proud to say I have no Kimber mags, NONE!
