No, they made pre series 80's too. I'm looking right at one, Series 70.

I have two pre- Series 80's, at the office, not sure how many at home. It's the same gun. No roll markings though. Pre 1988 I think. You have already seen my PL, pre 80. You haven't seen the GP. That has no roll markings either.

When Colt introduced the Series 80's in 45, they added to roll markings to the 380's.

Indeed I have a photo of your PL and it's not marked "Series 80" anywhere on it. Still, in my opinion, it is a series 80 gun. This is becasue it has the feature that pertains most to a "Series 80" firearm, the firing pin safety. I'm going to back this up with the fact that a well known Gov'y Pocketlight (manufactured in 1999) isn't marked "Series 80" either.

So , going out on a limb, I'll say that ALL colt single-action semi-auto 380s (Serial number prefixes RC/RR/RS/GP/MU/MS/PL and special edition variants thereof) are "Series 80" in spirit whether or not they are roll-marked this way because every one of these pistols has a firing pin safety (to replace the lost grip safety of it's bigger brother no doubt).

Damn, I think I'm approaching expert status on these guns. I must be a gun nerd

If it doesn't say series 80, It's not a series 80. It's a pre series 80. That's my story and I'm sticky to it.

Yes, the big change in the large "O" frames was the firing pin safety. However those were all series 70's. Mine don't say 70 or 80. So they are pre 80, post 70. So there!

ALL Colt 380's do have the firing pin safety, we agree on that.

So what is the Gov'y pocketlight built in 1999? Post series 80 / pre series 90?

Depends what is says on the slide, pre or 80. Series 90 suck, plain and simple. No longer locked and cocked.
