Ok.
I have been in the aviation business for 40 years. Have taught flying to all kinds of people, non english speakers, women, men, husband and wife, one eye student pilot. I was a Designated Pilot Examiner for the FAA before I went to fly jets for the airlines. Now I know this. In learning, there is a thing called the Law of Primacy. It means you must learn the correct procedure from day one. Why?....Because when you are put under stress you REVERT to what you initially learned. Got it?....... That is why when we teach emergency procedures, after the demo, when you practice those procedures, we (The instructors) purposely put you under stress so that you don't even have to think........... you just do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you learned to "flip up" the safety......guess what?.....You will flip up the damn safety when under stress. The book is full of people who under stress, forgot about the safety all together. Yes, when the bullets are flying by, or your partner is screaming for help, and all you see is blood, or God knows what. Yes...I have had two times in my life when things actually moved in slow motion....explain that!!!!...., that is why police dept. prefer DAOs, no safety. "The gun is always loaded, finger off the trigger", untill you are ready to shoot, "Pull to detonate" It is the KISS principle. I would respectfully submit to you, Sir, that if you are used to flipping up the safety lever, you either go back to your system, OR get something WITHOUT a safety lever at all. My $.02. Don't mean to scare anyone. That is what I know. I say this because I care. You are the captain of your life! ![]() |

Well I went to the range on Thursday and shot the G21 and G22 as well as the XD 9mm and .40. I had better grouping with the G22 overall but I like the trigger pull on the XD over the Glocks (it just feels smoother). So once I have the money the G22 will be mine. Are there other magazines that I can get for the G22 other than factory? They were kind of difficult to load after about the 8th round. Or is this something that will get easier with use?

I've never seen 3rd-party glock mags, probably because the factory mags are so cheap. There may be some out there though.
I find that putting a +1 extension on my range magazines (G27) makes it easier to get nine in there, but it doesn't really let you squeeze a tenth round in (though I have been able to once or twice). They do get a little easier with use, but I suppose that's why Glock includes a loader with every new gun. |

That was the only real complaint I had with the Glock. I could get 8 rounds no problem. Does the loader make it easier? I have never used one.

Do not use non Glock mags. They don't work. The springs will get broken in. A loader works for some people, I hate them. It takes to long. I push with both thumbs to load the last couple of rounds. I know a Female that can load the last two in all factory mags that are new. Eat spinach!

I am also a first time Glock owner who also have a G27. I carry it every day. I went this route because it fit the most rounds in the smallest package in the caliber I wanted. That being said, the lack of a manual safety still scares me.
I came from 1911 thumb safeties and miss the possitive lock on the trigger. Innitially I went with an IWB Galco holster that was not reinforced at the opening. Reholstering was tricky. I wear it all day every day but at times (postoffice, elementary classroom time, etc) I disarm and lock in a box in the car. For new CCW's I would stay away from unreinforced holstes while carrying a Glock. Putting it back in feels like my shirt, corer of the holster, fat-roll, etc could engage the trigger. I finally got my Milt-Sparks VMII and am waiting for the Summer Special. Ver easy to reholster but still scary for me with a Glock. I have 8 factory magazines for my glock. I keep 6 loaded with 9 rounds and the other two to rotate through the other six to relieve the springs. I may be off, but I keep extras in the car, the office, the home, garage, etc, so I have more ammo wherever I am. They are cheap and easy to find. I recomend not puttng the extension on the mag. Learning to shoot it with a finger off was helpful in learning to use my grip correctly. If you can't get more rounds into the mag, I don't see the value for me. I did have a range malfunction with the G27 this week where the slide stayed open after each shot! Very scarry. It took me a couple hours to find that the slide stop lever spring was pushed aside from a pin. I guess i did not put it back together in the correct order or propperly check function afterwards. I learned that lesson and make sure it functions properly after cleaning the lint out of it after a week of carry. |
