They do not require the letter anymore. It is considered safe to get one anyway. I do to keep the regulatory people happy.

That's what I did. Can't wait to pick it up. The ten day wait is over at 18:59 on 9/29 but who's counting. ![]() |

I would love to buy a Kimber! The only problem with that is there in no LE discount which means I need to save up another 400 or so which puts the time frame of purchase up in the air (OT is starting to slow down again at work). So for my first purchase I am gonna go Glock, but my 2nd purchase is a whole different story.

Are you saying that whoever is selling to you only gives a LE discount on certain items? |

They only give the discount on the Glock because there is a factory discount from Glock. From research that I have done over the last couple weeks they are the cheapest shop around, that is why they don't offer additional discounts. Plus, if someone has a gun cheaper they will beat the price.

Glock offers a LE price. They are the only gun company to do it.

The shop does not offer discounts on anything because they are so much cheaper than any gunshop within 60-70 miles of me (even with there LE discounts). Have a question about the Glock as well. I have been reading other forums where some people have the opinion that Glocks are a dangerous gun, ie. blowing up, AD's, and ND's. How much of this is user error?

Stores do sell cheaper to LEO's than the general public. Glock sells the guns at a lower wholesale price to the LE retailers is my point.

] is the set-up is foreign to me. Every other semi-auto I've trained with had a safety you flipped up to disengage. With the 1911/Kimber set-up, it's opposite. I went through lots of training (I wish I had a penny for every round I put through various other guns - I could retire!) with flipping the safety up. My concern about a 1911/Kimber set-up was that I would revert to the old way of doing things based on habit and instinct in a moment of stress and be screwed. Just me. I suppose I could go through as extensive a re-training on a 1911 set-up and make that safety instinctual . . . now there's an idea!!!Having said that, yes, I've heard of the complaints about Glocks. "They're plastic!" "They go off by themselves!" "No safeties!" "They blow up!" Etc., etc., etc. My personal opinion? There are no such things as AD (accidental discharges). Accidents are not preventable. ND (negligent discharges) are caused by just that - negligence. Preventable. User error. Call it what you want. Are some incredibly unfortunate? Absolutely. It doesn't make them fall out of the category of a ND. But... but... but.... there's no safety! How can you prevent it from going off? Keep things away from the trigger (fingers, clothing, etc.) unless you're ready for it to go BANG. It could happen with any gun if you didn't have the safety engaged. Ask around in law enforcement. Many carry a double action semi-auto with a round in the chamber, hammer down and safety OFF. Not engaging the safety makes that weapon the same as a "safetyless" Glock. Finger on trigger will make it go BANG. Do they "blow up"? Yeah, I've seen the videos on YouTube. Don't use reloads with some crazy charge and you should be fine. They're designed to fire regular factory ammunition with amazing regularity. If you want to tinker with reloads, a Glock may not be for you. I'm not pushing for or against Glocks. It's all a matter of choice. If you have concerns, there are many other fine handguns out there. Shoot as many as you can before making your choice. For me, I chose Glock. You may not. Good luck in your selection. |
