Napa City limit is 2, County is 3.
No limit on caliber that I've heard of. Some instructors caution folks to start a 9mm others 22mag & 380 are fine. (heard the county Sheriff carries Sig P232, .380) Some instructors have timed firing trials others no timing.

You guys with the Kimber Ultra CDP II's... have they been 100% reliable for you? I've grown to have a distaste for Kimber stuff over the years due to broken parts and poor customer service, but I know that they're very popular amongst knowledgable CA CCW holders, and nobody else seems to make such a small and lightweight 1911. It really does seem perfect for carry, assuming they run 100%!

I have recently transitioned to carrying a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II as a primary carry pistol. Largely due to the same reasons you noted. Kimbers are very popular among knowledgable CA CCW holders and they are among the smallest and lightest 1911 pattern pistols available. Previously I was somewhat jaded toward the 1911 platform due to some less than positive experiences early in my life. I also have a strong preference for J-Frame revolvers as carry weapons, though I do acknowledge some of their limitations. The Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II is a production, rather than a custom shop gun, like the CDPs. I have been very pleased with the Stainless Ultra Carry and have no doubt that the custom shop guns would be even better after they are broken in. The following links will give you a better idea of my experience with the Kimber Ultra Carry II: http://www.calccw.com/Forums/carry-g....html#post9857 http://www.calccw.com/Forums/carry-g...html#post10542 http://www.calccw.com/Forums/carry-g...html#post10679 http://www.calccw.com/Forums/carry-g...html#post11665 If you are considering a Kimber, you are in good company and will not be disappointed if you choose to purchase and carry one. Thanks,

It would not be on our CCWs if it were otherwise. Come to think of it, no one would have a pistol on their CCW that they did not consider it 100% reliable. |

Thanks, guys. I am not a beginner, nor am I new to the 1911 platform.... I have guns from Springfield Custom Shop, Les Baer, and Wilson Combat currently. I had a long conversation about the mini 1911's with Dave Williams of Springfield Custom a while back, and that conversation steered me away from even considering getting a 1911 that met my CCW needs (mine are all full steel 5-inch models, currently). But, knowing that so many of you carry them, I'm strongly considering one. My buddy has one of the little 3-inch Raptor models, and after some initial problems (feeding problems and the ejector fell off on the maiden voyage to the range) it seems to run fine.
The Kimbers that you guys all seem to love are really the only game in town. I don't know of anyone else making a slim .45ACP semiauto that is almost as light as a Glock 30, while being much easier to conceal, and reliable. I just gotta decide whether I want the Ultra or the 4-inch model. |

I'll have to find a local shop to handle both.
I am not a fan of the included ambi safety, but I can swap that out. I've done some more research, and the closest thing I can find is the S&W 1911PD "Gunsite" model. But, it has an external extractor, it's not rounded like the CDP's, and it's got front cocking serrations which I hate (especially on a shorter gun). Really, the only thing I don't like about the CDP's is the ambi safety. Springfield has a loaded Micro Compact that's similar, but it also has the ambi safety, and no frontstrap checkering (which is difficult to add later on with an Al frame). Plus side? Only 26 ounces, Springfield's excellent customer service, and no firing pin safety. Again, it doesn't have that really nice carry bevel, either. I thought I was done buying guns for awhile, until I decided to possibly diversify my carry gun options. I'm excited about checking out these Kimbers ![]() I may also look into a Scandium-framed j-frame, the 12 ounce one, and pocket carry it with .38's. That's a true "anywhere" gun, and still very effective as a defensive tool. I had a 642 awhile back that I traded for a no-dash Model 60, and then I sold that earlier this year. |

I do see the advatage of the lightweight micro compacts, but I am better off with a Commander size pistol. I feel very little difference in comfort while carrying assuming you use a solid platform (Milt Sparks anybody?). |

I went and fondled the Ultra CDP II at Fowler's in Orange today. It felt good in the hand, and the slide to frame fit was nice as well as the barrel lockup. They didn't have the other two sizes that I'm interested in. I would probably prefer to get the Commander-sized gun, but I just don't know if it'll conceal well OWB.
