Default Legal Ammo

I keep hearing Ranger ammo is illegal to own in Orange Co. Just want to know if it's legal or illegal and what other types of Ammo are illegal to have in your possession?

As to your first question, Ranger ammo is legal in OC... just hard to find.

As to what is and isn't legal, I'm not the one to answer that...

That being said, I'm not aware of any ammo legal for sale in Calif and illegal in OC. In other words, to my knowledge, OC follows state law for what is and isn't legal ammo.

By the way, there is a good source of Ranger ammo who posts on this board...
Post your interest and I imagine he will contact you.

Winchester states the Ranger SXT is for LEO only. That being said it is only their policy and not the law. Heck I saw some outdated Ranger SXT for sale at Turners in Orange.

Yeah... LEO Only on the box means "Special ammo, you must buy this." Heck, I don't even bother buying our department ammo... I prefer my Speer Gold Dot over our "LEO only" ammo.

LEO only just means they market that stuff to LEO agencies... nothing more.

Tracer ammo is Illegal in California I do beleive. Beyond that I do not believe there is any other regular small arms calibur sized ammo that holds that distiction here in Ca.

PS,,If I am incorrect please do offer better information.

Seems like i remembered a limitation on "armor piercing", but that may have only been an attempt at legislation... IIRC, the ammo has a black tip or some such thing to designate it. I'm sure someone else can clear up my foggy memory.

I do not recall if it is Fed or State or Both law... but I believe that "Armor Piercing" ammunition is described/defined by composition of the projectile as opposed to actual armor penetration characteristics.

Heck if I actually remember where I saw that stuff...

Dumb - dumb rounds are illegal too. NO! I'm not explaining what they are. Any home brew modifications to a existing bullet will also get you in trouble.

Another words, DO NOT file "+" into the top of the bullet nose.

LEO ammo normally expands better than the general public JHP's.

Packing the hollow point with garlic would also count as modification and is not recommended, unless you can prove in a court of law that you're fighting vampires.

I prefer the safe route...rinse the bullets in holy water every week...save the garlic for the tri-tip.

Does that mean I can't cast myself some silver bullets to use "just in case"? Halloween is coming up and I would expect anything to come out of Hollywierd...
