Welcome aboard Inboost. My holster of choice is the CTAC, very comfortable, very concealable both untucked and tucked.

As far as pocket carry goes, cargo shorts/pants have been the best pockets for me. As you mentioned, Inboost, Levis don't really have pockets that will accommodate many styles of handgun. A Kahr PM9 and smaller might work okay, but most of us have bigger weapons (although I have carried in my hip pocket a number of times when out walking the dogs at night). I went to a family thing all weekend in AZ and took along a Kimber Ultra in a pocket holster in the front pocket of my cargo shorts since I anticipated a number of hugs and contact. It worked out well--nobody was the wiser. Pocket carry is very comfortable with the right set-up, but it's not the always the most stable platform from which to present. I really like my Milt Sparks VM2 and my CTAC holsters. As far as pocket holsters go, I have a couple--a DeSantis Nemesis and a Mika Pocket Holster. I can use either of them for the Kimber, but the Mika was made for an SP101. The Kimber fits okay (a little loose, perhaps) in the Mika, but the SP101 is too thick for the Nemesis.

I always wear a thin t-shirt no matter what or how I carry. The exception is pocket carry, which happens to be my least favorite.

I carry a Commander type .45 Auto 99% of the time. Milts Sparks VM2 with Milt Sparks belt. Can't beat the concealment, comfort and speed of presentation factor with any other IWB mode I have tried. Just my 2 cents.

CalCCW03, thanks for the info. It seems that the comp-tac is the only recommended holster that is actually available. I called Milt Sparks today, the VM2 is 24 weeks out!

Dan M, great carry info. I'm going to look into some of the pocket carry holsters for my Agent. It's light enough for the job (unlike the P7 which appears to be carved out of depleted uranium). I saw the DeSantis model and will look up the Mika, the SP101 is probably close in size to the Agent so if they don't produce something specific I can always cheat. I think I read somehwere on the forum that there is also an S&W snubby that closely mimics the Agent dimensionally. As for your MS and CTAC holsters, do you favor one over the other?

Glock32, the 45acp seems to be the informal caliber of choice on this forum usually deliveried by a 1911 derivative. I wouldn't argue this at all except for my silly irrational unfounded fear of carrying cocked & lockled. I know how these guns work, I know they are safe, but somehow hammer back rubs me the wrong way. Stored spring energy scares me just about as must as pressure does (engineer in me again). However I suspect that CCWInstructor will have me shooting his large collection of Kimber flavored candy then next time I go on range with him and I'll just have to have one.

CCWInstructor, thanks for the council today (working on GC). I will bring the Agent in so you can see my chop job first hand. For those who wont be there here's a detail shot!

inboost, your fear of C&L mirrors the fear I had when initially deciding what to carry. My S&W 4013 and 4513 with their decockers were where my comfort zone was...or so I thought. Once I spent time actually carrying my Kimber Compact CDP II, I can't imagine carrying any other way. It just feels 'ready'. And a good holster (with a thumb break for my own personal comfort level) can alleviate other concerns.

But you have to go with what you know and what you are comfortable with.

I have to agree with Sush's comment. Comfort and peace of mind are important. Both are very subjective matters.
I have an Engineering background myslef and even though I understand that is is safe to carry a Glock with a loaded chamber I hated every minute of it. I took it off my ccw and replaced it with a second 1911 type.
My first semi-auto handgun was/is a Colt Series 70 Commander. I bought it in 1984. It is heavily customized now and I still have it. Cocked and locked on a 1911 platform beats everything else in my book. I absoluteley love to carry that way.

For the Kimber, I favor the MS and here's why. The sweat shield on the CTAC has a flare to accommodate the safety on the Kimber. The flare tends to dig into me when I'm sitting sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't. Go figure. The sweat shield on the MS never does. It's very comfortable, plus the aesthetics of nestling the Kimber into good leather are more appealing for me. I still really like the CTAC though. I like the way the gun clicks into the kydex holster. The adjustability is supreme, although when I get it to where it rides the lowest, it makes it more difficult to get a good grip as quickly as the higher-riding MS.

Dan M., That's exactly the kind of critique I'm after. I suspect the P7M8 may have a similar problem in a CTAC (see the photo in a previous post above) there is a good sized plastic 'wart' that will probably antagonize my rib cage if leaned on for any period of time. The asthetics and 'feel' of leather rate high with me when it comes to firearms. I'm a steel/wood/leather guy through and through. I have a great 'gunslinger' belt for my 6" Python!

Glock32, I agree that the commander is a great piece. My series 80 has the additon benefit (or detractor, depends who you ask) of the firing pin block safety. Too bad I put target sights on it last year or I might even try carrying it (If I'm given the privledge! let's not forget I'm a long way away for obtaining a CCW permit). However, being a full size pistol I think it would also serve only a small portion of the carry gambit. Perhaps a backpack holster would do (my choice of carry for the laptop).

X-ffdo, thanks for the compliment!

Guns & Sushi, I suspect that I'll 'come around' on C&L carry after some training and rig selection. Seems I've got plenty of time to sort it out. I'm still working out the GC letter but suspect it won't be long before it's polished.

I have heard of the P7s and might actually have a few. As for holsters I like DelFatti OWB but I do have a couple of shoulder holsters. You are welcome to take a look and try one out. I am sure you have heard of the "Cult" and you might want to do a holster search there for the full scoop. http://delfatti.com/webdoc19.html

Milt Sparks makes a nice rig.

I do have a couple of those plastic rigs...which are fine if you have a Ford or Tripps hard chrome, but I do prefer leather.

True Brit, thanks for the info, those photos are great too! Yes, I know the Park Cities Tactical forum well. I've been hoping to find some used leather there along with opinions. I did find the CTAC reviewed by a P7 owner and he seemed to really like it. Because the body side of the holster will be against my skin I worry about comfort.

The Milt Sparks rigs you show look to be IWB carry. How would you rate IWB carry for a P7M8? I was leaning towards the MS VM2 because I have yet to hear anything bad about it. I would really like to take you up on your offer to try some of this gear out first hand. PM me or get in touch with me via CCWInstructor, I work close by to his office.

Have you ever had any trouble with any of these various rigs allowing a mag to be ejected? The mag release looks very close to the belt line. I saw a guy on the PCT forum selling mag catches which had been 'dehorned' and suggested that one of the levers could even be removed (sawed off) from the stampting completely if you didn't mind loosing the ambi relase to aid in concealed carry 'reliability'. read about it here

To those who came by to see CCWInstructor today, I'm sorry I missed you, it would have been great to put some faces to forum names.

We will catch you next time. Plase make sure to have that little .38 with you. I want to be the first to offer you $50 for it. It's really not what you want after all....
