~ 1/2 tsp pepper
~ 1/4 cup cream
~ 2 cups corn bread crumbs
~ 2 tsp sage
~ 3 tbsp chopped parsley
~ 1 tsp marjoram
~ 1/2 tsp mace
~ 1/4 cup orange juice
~ 1 cup red wine

In a skillet, saute the onion and celery in the butter.

Add the sausage meat and cook until brown. Drain off the fat.

In a bowl mix the sausage mixture, cream, corn bread crumbs, sage, parsley, marjoram, mace and orange juice together thoroughly.

Salt and pepper the raccoon inside and out.

Stuff the raccoon and close up the belly cavity. Place on a rack in a roasting pan and cook for 45 minutes per pound at 300 degrees.

Turn over when half done.

Baste frequently with the wine and the pan juices when they cook out.

Serve and Enjoy!
I'd prefer to just drink the wine .... i've had coon...... way too greasy and fatty. Kinda like bear. It has a really gamey flavor and I don't plan on eating either again.

Default 22 short for no noise

I have a Winchester Model 74 in 22 Short (4-digit 1939 mnfctr) It makes no noise. All you hear is the clack of the action cycling. For those who can't get their semi-autos to cycle 22 shorts, just weaken the recoil spring a little and it should do just fine. Otherwise, just make the first shot count. I knew guys who would tape a flashlight to the barrell at night and pop 'em between the eyes, but I never heard of them using 22 shorts ...
Back in the late '80s I hit a coon in the rafters of the garage with 22lr. They went through the coon, the roof and peeled up the shingles a little ... dad wasn't too happy about the roof, but grandma was glad the coon was gone. I was surprised the 22lr passed right through the coon and it took about 7 shots before it quit wiggling. That history gives me pause to consider a 22 short..... it just may make for a miserable/mad coon.

You could try and beef up this system to handle raccoons, and shoot them in the neighbors yard. YouTube - Squirrel Slingshot

Well I tried out those Remington Subsonic 22 rounds. They cycle in my Remington Nylon 66 without fail and are really not loud at all. No louder than a good pellet gun.

AND...just found out that as of 3 days ago the DFG regulations state in black and white "NO BAG LIMIT on raccoons until March 31" using 22 caliber, bow hunting or traps. So looks like I'm going to have my neighbor make a pot of coffee and help me get rid of these pesky critters since they are causing problems for him as well.

Not really, If I did want pelts we have plenty of local pests of the same variety. I don't really care for the critters either. Thanks for the offer though. Hope you can solve the problem.

You will envy this - my landlord knows I had the DFG guy out here for the raccoon problem and they are wise to the traps. Since the DFG guy knows I am licensed to trap/hunt (and have a CCW), he said to go ahead and count it as pest control since we are not in the city limits and sit on the edge of a forest. So, on that note, he knows I am trapping or putting them down as needed, and as a courtesy to me, the landlord is taking care of removing carcasses for me as they "happen along" since it is a win-win situation for him and me. 5 are gone, about 12 more to go that we know of.

The smallest one of the bunch weighed in at 37 lbs today if you can believe it. Gee how they grow bug when there are no predators to control the population.

You grow them BIG up there, ours run in the 25# plus neighborhood in town down here. Perhaps a wall mount trophy?

No, no trophy. To me they are like a trash pilfering rat, only bigger, smarter and more brazen.

That's why I made sure all points around the house are secure including foundation vents and access point. Nailed number 6 last night. I figure if I can get at least one or 2 a night I should have it under control in a week.

I found the local hardware store sells peanut butter rodent bait laced with strichnine for $8. None of the neighbors have dogs. Hmm....

The insulation under my house is still torn up in one corner. Shooting is not an option here, so I locked them out. Now the squirrels are picking up their slack. The little jerks are more persistent than the damn 'coons.

Squirrels? Then maybe you should trip on down to Wal-Mart, get some nachos and buy a Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and a thing which tells time. Just don't shoot yer eye out!
