I'm more or less with you until the safe part... why safe? You can safely store firearms without a safe....

A good pistol safe is $50-$60 bucks, a keyed steel box that can be mounted in a hidden spot less than $20. What method did you have in mind?

I have a S&W Sigma that I don't carry (it's a .380) but it's light, flat, has been 100% reliable for me & they're not expensive. Just a thought....

I think most of are thinking of something more substantial that a pistol box.
My safe is a mid-price, medium size gun safe and it cost about $1500 on sale. It's not even a real safe. It's a Residential Security Container (Gun Safe). A real safe about that size would probably cost 5 to 10 times that price.

You must be one of the guys who thinks a 1911 should cost a minimum of 4 grand. Get a pistol safe, bolt it to the wall in a closet (to limit leverage), and THEN you can go on vacation sure that 100% of children and 90% of burglers aren't going to get that stuff. Hide it well and increase the odds.

"Most" are thinking of a $15000 safe.................LOL

That's funny since all I carry are Glocks. I would never consider spending more than $1500 on a 1911 if I ever went back to that platform that is. I guess you didn't carefully read what I said about Safes vs Residential Security Containers (aka gun safes). I don't think many of us on this forum keep our guns in $15,000 safes, $1,500 gun safes is more in line with what I was thinking. But your point is well taken. If all you have to protect are one or two pistols, a bolted-down pistol safe is better than a dresser drawer.

I paid $425 for my Taurus Millenium Pro PT140 and I don't regret it. I've put over 1000 rounds through it without one hiccup. It is also the perfect size for CCW. The only thing I would like changed on it is to get rid of the thumb safety for a more modern type, i.e. trigger or grip safety.

Yup. A decent pistol won't cost a lot. My Ruger P345 cost me $500 and I don't regret buying it one bit. Never had a problem whatsoever with it.

May not be quite as compact as your Taurus but we definitely got decent guns.

The 345 is a highly underrated gun IMHO. I am not saying it's a dream gun, but for the the money it is hard to beat in a DA/SA design. Nice grip, too.

A lot of law enforcement agencies are adopting it as their service sidearm too for that reason.

That must be a new thing. Seems like Ruger has not done as well with their simiautos as with their wheel guns.

Well ok, maybe not 2 months gross salary today, but after taxes, house and car payments, insurance, food, etc. Besides I am not talking about a Colt 1911, I'm talking about one of these, $3,800 to start. STI TruBor GM in 9x23... or one of these for a carry gun, starting at $1,300

I have a Bersa 380 that I carry, its been reliable and a fun little shooter. Lifetime Warranty. Turners has them for $269 on sale this week. You can put it on lay away for something like 50% down.

Other than that, I have a little Taurus Model 85 concealed hammer and its a easy carry, however about $100 more.

Good Luck..
