Default I made the jump to a Kimber today!!

Those of you who are familiar with my previous posts know that I favor Smith and Wesson J Frames as carry weapons, however, today I purchased a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II.

This is my first new pistol in many years and I am quite excited about it. I am looking forward to "breaking it in" and will try to keep you all informed on how it and I perform.

I know from my research as well as comments on this forum that the Kimbers are well regarded. I also seem to sense that the OEM magazines from Kimber are often the source of many FTF issues and are not as highly regarded as the pistols themselves.

Any advice on replacement magazines as well as tips on breaking in the weapon will be welcome and very much appreciated.

Thanks,

I use 8 rd. Wilson mag. Kimber mag. is used only to load +1 And keep shooting to at least 500 rounds. Kimber are picky on ammo. RN your best bet.

Thank you Python for the quick reply, I appreciate it. The Wilson Magazines you mentioned also seem to be well regarded by others as well.

Thanks again,

I have the Kimber Ultra, Compact and Custom CDP IIs. I use Wilson Combat magazines in all three. The Ultra and Custom were broken in within 500 rounds, the Compact took 2000 rounds (very tight gun, very accurate). The Compact actually required a little hand-lapping with a whet stone on my part. Love all three (now). Use good quality ammo, not Wolf with steel casings. Welcome to the family.

Default Club Kimber

Welcome to the club!

I got my Ultra Carry II about two weeks ago and have a couple Wilson 7s and 8s. I only use the Kimber mag for +1 loading.

I've got about 1000 rounds of WWB FMJ through mine and it is just starting to get in the groove. I haven't had a single jam in the last 250. All problems were with loading, no problems extracting or firing. Lube lube lube.

I absolutely love it. I let somebody borrow it and they immediately went out and ordered a CDP.

I was trying out smaller caliber handguns (9mm and 40s&w) and found that the full sized USP in 40s&w had more recoil than my UCII, at least in my small hands YMMV.

One thing I would change is frontstrap checkering to help with my small sweaty paws. The next time I'm on vacation I'll probably send it to the custom shop.

Thanks again for all the replies thus far. It looks like Wilson Combat Magazines just jumped to the top of my shopping list.

Thanks again,

I tried a method that I learned from some more thrifty shooters to compenstae for my lack of custom shop funds. In the beginning I thought it was almost sacreligious but it worked. Went to Home Depot bought a strip of skate board tape for $1.60. Cut a strip off, then trimmed it to the size I needed and attached it to my smooth front strap. Nothing but the best quality skate board tape will do for me!!!!

Hey, the skateboard tape works too if you don't want to spend the time or money on front strap checkering.

Lucky for me I used to date a gunsmith, he did all that for me

My kind of guy -- American ingenuity. For me, the Ultra CDP II comes with frontstrap checkering. I use Wilsons as well.

Having just bought the Kimber ultra CDP ll, I'd have to say I was more than impressed. It has less perceived recoil than a sunbby 38, shot very tight groups from a 3" barrel, has great sights and just feels damn good in your hand. This was my first Kimber, it wont be my last.

So, you finally got one?!? Congrats BV!

I have two Kimbers now, and I love them both. And yes, get the Wilson mags.
