Default CCW Handgun question...

I want to change my carry handgun from my Glock 36 to something that I can easily carry in my jeans front pocket. I would like something in a semi automatic. I few buddies of mine have recommened that I consider a Kahr model. Does anyone have any recommendations? The smaller the better.

Thanks.

I do not own a Kahr PM9.
I think that those who own one will tell you that they consider this one to be a good choice for pocket carry. With a pocket holster.
Let them jump in.
There might be other models which might be good for this purpose.

I have a G36 and a PM9. Love them both. For summer, I've been pocket carrying the Kahr 90% of the time. It's a great handgun and an excellent CCW...light, very small, very accurate 9mm. Highly recommended!! PM9 is also good IWB. My 36 comes out every now and then...but I'll see a lot more of her in the Fall and I'll be happy to have the .45 back in my belt.

+1 on the PM9, that is my primary carry weapon now in the summer. PM9 is a perfect pocket gun and completely disappears in an IWB holster.

The Kahr PM9 very easily fits in a pocket, much more so than the larger Glock 26 (which is Glock's subcompact 9mm). I use it in an Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster. It has been extremely reliable; I occasionally pull it out on the range and fire the mag of JHP dry. Works every time. It is very small, but for myself I've not had a problem with grip and a dangling pinky. I use it primarily when I'm worried about people (usually relatives) hugging me near 3 o'clock. When I carry it, that's all that is in the pocket -- nothing else to possibly tangle the trigger (even though it's in the holster).

Taurus pt140 is small, I dunno if it would fit comfortably in a pocket since I only use a holster and dont have deep pockets.

Strongly recommend the Kahr. The CW9 is a bit cheaper than the PM, and is a very light and narrow carry weapon. 3/4 thick. I carry mine in a Smart Carry (front of pants) but have no doubt it would carry well in a front pants pocket.

SWDR, good for you, you have to think about those things, Boy, I had not thought about the "hug" angle. The isolation up here is beginning to be felt. Call me the unloved one, but I have not been made yet!

CW9 and P9 have a longer grips, while PM and MK are short, more pocketable 2-finger grips (extended grip available as mag extension). MK is the heavier (albeit nicer, maybe) metal frame, while the P/PM series are the light polymer. I haven't shot the .40 yet, but I'll bet it's a snappy little bugger. The great thing about the Kahrs is they are very, very compact, but still have the sights of a full-sized weapon...not those little nubs you'll see on many small autos. You can go smaller, but the PM may be as small as you can go and still have the caliber and accuracy of a much larger carry pistol.

PM 9... hands down....
order it with the night sights...
good pocket holster....
good corbon 115 gr hp loads or their equivelent... whatever range loads for the break in ....
shoot it...
shoot it some more...
shoot it past the break in ....
carry it .... it's accuracy and reliablilty will seduce you... and I mean that in every way possible...

+1 Exactly what he said.

Get the 24/7 express big dot night sights and use +P at least ammo when breaking it in. After about 2-400 rounds it becomes a beautiful thing.

I wish OC allowed us to carry 4 weapons, that way I could put the kahr pm9 back on the list. My p2000sk is small but not THAT small. So it only goes in some deep pockets. The PM9 was by far the best "grab and go" weapon I've owned. Either with a pocket holster (desantis superfly) or actually strapping it on with a mikes special from TT gunleather.

I also had a way better experience with it at the range when I switched from mpro7 to dry-slide. Not collecting lint and yuck is a huge plus when something is sitting in your pocket.
