Default California DFG considers ban on lead ammo state wide.

Though some of us here who don't hunt may feel this proposal will not effect you, consider the lead ban was only in the "condor zone". Now the state Dept. of Fish and Game is considering expanding the lead free zone beyond "condor habitat"

How long will it be before lead is banned in SD ammo, and ranges forced to have all lead removed or be closed down. Since the dfg has made it clear the lead ban is no longer about the condor, it's pretty clear that if guns can't be banned then ammo can simply be made prohibitively expensive.

Please take the time to write the dfg provided at the bottom of the link.

Thanks guys and gals.

You are right on the money Dutchman. This has nothing to do with a pre-historic bird as much as control.

I can see it now. Even the cops will have to switch at least their range ammo. And that's what they shoot a bunch of and that's what we the taxpayers have to pay for.
Let the friggin condors die off. Who cares if they're extinct! They're not edible!

At least not with all that "lead" in them.

All jokes aside this is a serious matter. Even if you are not a hunter this could/would spill over to outdoor ranges at a minimum.

I was surprised that Alaska also has a ban on lead bullets in certain areas.

Thanks.

It's just so discouraging that any regulation proposed under the guise of being "for the environment" or "for the children" gets passed without any critical thought.

May I suggest that when you write to the commission, you use and emphasize the words "Wildlife Management"? These words will get their attention much more than "2nd Amendment rights".
If lead, in ammo, is banned everywhere, then fewer people will hunt, game animals will breed out of control. This will lead to habitat destruction endangering the viability of native species.
See what I'm getting at? Speak the language they understand.

My letter pointed out the lack of condors statewide. Also mentioned was the fact that there was never any study indicating what lead levels were like in condors before lead was used in bullets, as well as no evidence of lead bullets even being eaten by a condor.

What you are seeing is eco-Nazism teaming up with the anti 2a crowd.

Don't look for any argument to work. I stayed with biological and statistical arguments. We are dealing with a commission that has already made the decision. The "publik input" to the commissar is allowing is for nothing more than show.

The condors recently reported to have died of lead poisoning turned out to have been shot.

That would introduce lead into the equation, of course.

For fun look up the stats on condor deaths to see how many have died from electrocution. Way more than lead poisoning. Then see how many have drowned. Lead is the least problem for these idiotic birds. They have had to rescue several who were eating pop tops and bottle caps so we are not talking a smart animal here. I'm sure the top tops are just as tasty as wheel weights found by the side of the road. Oh wait, those are also made of lead!
