Default To those in Irvine

Pat Rodgers for Irvine City Council

Pat Rodgers said this on Red County. Beware this dude!

Quote:
I am as much in favor of the right to own and maintain firearms as the next guy, but that does not include carrying them concealed on their person. During my thirty-five year career as a law enforcement oficer in Orange County, the only thing that worried me more that a criminal with a gun, was a citizen with a gun. The vast majority are not trained to use a weapon, and haven't a clue about the complex set of rules involved in the use of deadly force. Deadly force is tough enough for Police to deal with these days and departments are constantly training in the use for force continum.

In my opinion, Sheriff Hutchins is doing the right thing in recalling most of the CCW permits so freely handed out by the former Sheriff to his political buddies. After looking at some of the names on the list, I could clearly see that there was no justification for that person to carry a weapon, except for status and ego. Sheriff Brad Gates had a tight policy on the issuance of CCW permits and I don't recall a lot of hue and cry in those days. Hopefully Sheriff Hutchins will reinstitute such a policy where only those people who need to carry guns will be authorized to do so.

Oh great, another Paul Walters type...and running for city council. At least it gives his opponent a clear platform to run on.

What an idiot. He clearly doesn't understand the difference between a cops need to act vs a civilians need to self defense, they are completly different and that is why police are required to be trained more and on a regular basis. I also believe civilians should take it upon them selves to get more training, but should not be subjected to having to attend an academy just to CCW for self defense purposes.

Lots of gun crimes in the City of Irvine. I can see where he can base that off of his dangerous assignments as a LT there. When he worked on the streets about 30 years ago, interestingly enough back when Sheriff Gates was working, CCWs were non-existent. And he apparently doesn't remember the "hue and cry" of the case that made Sheriff Gates issue more CCWs and eventually led to Sheriff Carona issuing more CCWs as well.

I find it amazing that he personally knows the good causes of the people on the list of CCW licensees when that information is not available to the public.

This was posted somewhere else in the recent past. It seems to be making it's rounds. Yep, spread the word in Irvine. This guy has an elitist attitude.

Wow! Who does this guy think he is? His words reflect everything America does NOT stand for. Elitist and arrogant are the only dexcribing words I can come up with that will make it through the filter.

I woud like to see his training background or better take a training class with him as a co-student. I have a feeling he might reflect his lack of traing and skills on the other guy.

To make a comment about ccw holders in the same sentence with criminals carrying guns illegally is idiotic. To say one prefers the crminal with a gun over a law abiding citizen is disgusting.

Wonder why ccw works so well in other counties and states? Must be pure luck we have not seen blood on the streets yet I guess.

Shame on you Sir.

Yes, I got this quote from the thread about the Red County article about Hutchins and the CCW recalls. His was the first comment and I quoted it there too. Only today did I click the link with his post and found that he's running for city council.

To tell you the truth it wouldn't surprise me in the least if CCW holders are more trained than most leo. How often do they train for most of them just the minimun. imho

Doesn't look like Pat Rodgers is qualified to serve the citizens. I wonder if he is even competent to carry a firearm.

Some may be but not most, LEO's have mandated training and CCW holders do not; only a 4 hour class, so by that standard LEO's are far better trained and have to qualify every quarter according to POST standards, CCW holders are not required to qualify ever.
