Default National Park Carry

Quote:
The Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted 18-5 on Thursday to approve a bill by Sen. Jim DeMint which would allow people to carry firearms for personal protection in national parks and wildlife refuges if state law allows it, ending a 25 year ban.

“The purpose of this bill is to protect innocent Americans from violent crime in national parks,” DeMint said.

National Forests already allow firearms if state law permits them, and this would bring the parks and wildlife refuges in line with the Forests.

Opponents of the bill claim it will make the parks more dangerous and encourage poaching, despite that fact that neither of those claims have come true in National Forests, State Parks, or anywhere else law abiding citizens are allowed to protect themselves with guns.

This bill will now be moving forward in the process to becoming law, though it still has a ways to go
Thats a pretty wide margin by the Yogi's! Hopefully their input will be sought and considered at all stages of the process

Yeah! Is this final? Or is there more voting still to be done on this?

This is the result of the closure of the final public comment period and may very well be real deal. I hope the final wording comes out to our best benefit.

I'm a little confused on this one. Several newspaper articles I've read claim that this proposed change will not allow CCW. within California's National Parks because... They claim CCW is not allowed in our state parks.

Yet posted in this forum is a letter from the state parks saying CCW holders are exempt from the prohibition of guns within the state parks.

Who's got it right?

Remember that there are two somewhat parallel processes going on here. The closing of the comment period was for an initiative within the Department of the Interior to change DOI regs. This article has to do with a bill before Congress with the same intent, more or less. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the congresspersons were tracking the comments on the DOI proposal, and I wonder if the DOI has backed off moving forward with theirs because of what's going on in Congress.

Either one will be a win if it comes into being. But don't count your chickens, etc. I've heard a rumor that the Speaker of the House, who has the power to kill just about any bill, is a little anti-2A.

CCW is allowed in our state parks. Even though I've read by the online press somwhere it is not.
