FYI, I received the following today in response to a letter I wrote to the governator regarding the ammo bill:
Thank you for writing me about AB 2062 I appreciate your suggestions on proposed legislation affecting our state. I generally do not take a position on legislation until a bill has reached my desk because it can change significantly from the time it is introduced until the time it is finalized. For the current session, the California Legislature has until August 31, 2008 to pass legislation, and I have until September 30, 2008 to sign or veto proposed bills. You may continue to follow this and any other bill under consideration by lawmakers at the Official California Legislative website: Official California Legislative Information. You may also read my legislative messages at Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger - Breaking News, Policy Updates, Webcasts, Photos, Videos, Blogs. Again, I appreciate your interest in California's future. An informed and engaged public is important for effective government in our state. Sincerely, Arnold Schwarzenegger |

A reply bot. I have sent a few letters to the Governor and received similarly vague replies. But they do tally them and track the interest. If he vetoes something you oppose or signs something you support you will get something like this:
Thank you for your e-mail urging a veto of AB XXX. Active participation by individuals like you is essential to the success of our democratic process, and I value your suggestions on how government can better serve the people of our state. After extensively considering both sides of this issue, I am pleased to inform you that I vetoed this bill. My veto message for this legislation may be found on the Official California Legislative Information website at Official California Legislative Information. Again, I appreciate your voicing your opinion on legislation affecting the future of our state. An informed and engaged public is important for effective government in California. Sincerely, Arnold Schwarzenegger

The flip side is his job description: represent the constituency of the whole state. I vote to support my own convictions, but keep the contact to let 'em know I'm still here.

You know... he's a great action movie actor but a lame Governor.
