If you have a CCW permit (I don't see the rice paper icon by your avatar ), you can carry at the airport but not into the secure areas. If you have to pass a metal dectector, it is not allowed. However, that said, the airport terminals are under heavy scrutiny and are HIGHLY sensitive regarding weapons. You would not be breaking any laws there, but if it became known that you were armed , it may be an ungly scene. I believe in my right to carry and carry whenever and wherever I can. I have carried into schools (middle and high schools and colleges), court houses, police stations, and government buildings. Probably the one place that I would not carry is to the airport. Too much security there who tend to be on edge at all times and not very friendly regarding threats to the security of the airport.

YMMV

Thanks Keith,

I DO have my NV CCW. I'm NOT going IN the airport, just circling around in my car to pick someone up, I will not be steeping out at all.

Thats how I thought the law was too, but this is my FIRST time using my CCW so im a little more paranoid than usual!

OK...I'm getting a little paranoid FOR you now!!! Please tell me that you were picking your friend up from the airport in Nevada and not at John Wayne. You don't want to be carrying anywhere in the great state of California with the NV CCW. They are not honored here and will get you in a world of trouble, ESPECIALLY at the airport.

RM,
Either you left out the fact you also have a Calif. CCW or you are misusing your Nev. CCW.

Calif. doesn't recognize your Nev CCW and Nev. doesn't recognize your Calif. CCW.

Regardless, if you are not getting out of the car, you are not "likely" going to have any issues unless you greet your guest by waving hello to him with your handgun! LOL.

I read recently that somewhere in this great nation, a couple of dim bulb types, went shooting or were planning on going shooting later in the day and picked up a friend at the airport. For some reason not clear to me, the car ended up being searched and the whole group, the care the ammo and all the weapons were taken into custody. I never heard what the end results was (rarely do we ever hear the ending of such stories) so, even though I carry my weapon every where I go (In a locked container, unloaded) I always spin my combo dial when I go to pick up people at the airport. That way, I am legally carrying and I have it with me if I should need it and (please God) have time to get it out.

If you have a CCW, you should also have learned the proper and legal places to carry. If your class did not teach you that or teach you where to look for such information or didn't tell you about the non-reciprocity between Nev and Calif. you took an incredibly bad class and should do some refresher work with some other resource.

Just my polite and humble opinion, don't want to get into a slapping match over it.

Hope you find (or found) the info you are looking for.

You guys crack me up!

I am in Nevada. And on further investigation it seems legal to carry while driving by the airport.

Wheewww!! You had me there for a minute. The Newport Beach/Costa Mesa thing kinda threw me off. You'd be hard pressed to get anyone here to comment on the laws regarding CCW in Nevada. It is hard enough just keeping up with them here in California.

Hope you enjoy your visit with your friend.

Thanks for your help Keith, Im back now and I was in Nevada working. It sure felt good carrying for a change, it was my first time ccwing in public

all went well, my back hurts a bit from lugging around a steel 1911 and 10lbs of camera equipment , I must say that having a firearm on your side sure does make your alert level a notch above yellow.

I ALMOST had an incident involving a drunk Mexican (fact, not ignorance or name-calling) but ill have to save that for the Stories While carrying to keep this thread clean!
