I'm scratching my head and thinking I don't know if I like that or not.

I agree. The biggest part in CCW, C is put into question if you are outed to friends, neighbors and co workers. Not to mention if one of those three categories doesn't like you, that can have serious repercussions. It's really a slight of hand.

Very grey area.

And not necessarally good news.I think,as im sure most of us do (i hope) that contacting neighbors an co-workers is wrong based on the fact that the more people that know about a possible ccw the more likely they will let the cat out of the bag you have a ccw.And for those who are anti ccw might not say good things just to keep those "dangerous guns off the street".

The whole idea behind a ccw is "conceal carrying"so as no one knows about it.And Monterey county sherrifs dept. isint doing any one any favors by putting it out there you "might " be getting a carry permit.

I think its there way of finding a way to deny law biding citizens of their rights.

Shame on MCS dept.

Thumbs down

Pros & cons-

I like that they are accepting personal protection.

Absolutely wrong to tell your neighbors about the Concealed portion of CCW,

A bone head move

Wow! Talk about a double edged sword... I like the fact that a very anti-CCW county has now decided to loosen up the process a bit. But there are ways to interview and determine suitability without letting the cat out of the bag.

Agreed

Me thinks I don't like the attitude of the sheriff.

In my opinion, “personal protection” should suffice to establish the good cause standard.

However

This one word tells me all I need to know about this sheriff's attitude.

to ensure we are not issuing CCW permits to individuals who shouldn’t have one

Of course Cal law authorizes the sheriff to issue permits based on an arbitrary definition of good cause but there are around 35 states that issue to EVERY citizen that passes a class & background check without all the other stuff (crap).
Hell there are 3 states that do not require any permit at all for any one, resident or traveler, in order to carry within that state.

So here we are with 38 states that practice liberty and Cal that still practices intimidation under the guise of cooperation.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't many people request a CCW BECAUSE of their neighbors?

As I predicted a long time ago, once GC falls by the wayside, the PD/Sheriff will hang their hat on the Good Moral Character prong of the Penal Code. This comes as no surprise.

I was thinking along those lines.
Hopefully the investigator doing the interviewing would find out a little about who they are interviewing beforehand. If the "neighbor" or "co-worker" is a thug or a druggie or worse , they would find another interviewee. One would hope so anyway but.......I dunno.
I have to say I have mixed feelings on this one myself.

Do they do this for potential law enforcement officers? Take a survey of the neighborhood to see if everyone thinks they would be a good candidate?
