Post Approved in Merced County

I received my letter from the Sheriff's Office today: "Approved!" Next up is Live Scan and the CCW class. Rice Paper will be in hand soon!

Nice Duky! You will have rice paper in hand and nacho cheese in your face before you know it. Hope time speeds by.

Way to go! Is that the normal procedure in CA that you first get approved, then get printed and take the CCW class? Mine was the exact opposite ie I first took the class, then submitted my application along with fingerprints. The sheriff's office had nothing to do with it (other than the live scan) as everything is handled on the state level.

OK, I just read the entire Merced County thread in the other section, and now I see what a big deal this actually is. You are really to be congratulated on your tenaciousness.

Default (almost) done

I've received my letter from the Sheriff's Office that my permit is ready to pick up. I've jumped through all the hoops, signed all the papers, fingerprinted, paid fees and 4-hour CCW class all done! Except I can't shoot the qualifying rounds until April 30th...

Where I went for my CCW class, it is only provided once a month with shooting your qualification rounds the following Saturday. I had to miss that Saturday due to the need to attend a function for my son. So, 30 more days... This has taken more than a year to complete so I am pretty used to this by now -->

Here in stanislaus, you have to complete your safety/training/firearm qualification course, fingerprint, submit app first, then interview, then sit and wait.

Good deal. Merced is a tough county. Glad to have another armed guard out there.

Well done.

You are just one county away from Merced. Here, after the Sheriff's Office approves your application and Good Cause and your personal physician attests that you have no physical or vision deficits that would prevent you from CCWing, you are then sent off for fingerprints and instructed to take the class. Once your fingerprints clear, they tell you you can come in with your class and shooting qualification certificates and pick up your permit.

It took one month for the SO to approve my application and Good Cause. It took 2 weeks for my fingerprints to clear and to receive my final approval. If I could have been quicker on the class and shooting, I'd be a real CCWer right now.

Just one county away yet the process is so different...
