Default Interesting Article in Sundays Newspaper

Article in Sunday 26-Aug-07 Fresno Bee by Diana Marcum: Paintball for Jesus

Interesting article where a church group holds an event every third Sunday that includes a paintball game.

These paintballers while proposing the use of a 15-acre county property, created a local debate. The churches youth leader, Jeff Tomerlin contends that paintball is the perfect ministry.

Some quotes from the article:

“The lessons of discipline and teamwork will have the sticking power of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich”

“They learn life’s lessons like depending on each other”

“The merits of paintball as a character-building church youth activity became a cause of public debate when the church went looking for a more permanent home for the games”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a very interesting read but the purpose of my thread was a quote in the article by Sheriff Jim Allen, Mariposa county sheriff, coroner, public administrator, marshal, warden and head of animal control.(Wow! That’s a lot of hats to wear)

“We’re pro-guns. I approve concealed-weapons licenses for law-abiding citizens. We don’t have home-invasion robberies here. You know why? We all have guns”

Don’t you wish all county sheriff’s shared his ideals?

Atwater10, thanks for the post. And yes, we like Sheriff Jim Allen here.

I didn't but I went in there and found it:

FresnoBee.com: Local: Paintball for...Jesus?

It's an interesting article. I'm sure glad to live in the next county over both Mariposa and Eastern Madera are great places to live.

We do get some crime up here but for the most part people are polite.........

Thanks!

I found this last comment by the fine Sheriff Allen to be amusing...

"But Allen did scoff at the church's proposal that a county paintball field also could be used by law enforcement for training ("We use real guns")."

My church plays paintball frequently. My church is also not opposed to having "range days" during mens retreats.

And for the record, Sheriff Allen is my hero...Gods honest truth!

Funny...when asked by a former co-worker if I still play paintball on the tournament circuit, I said "No, I play with real guns now".

But the good news is he might have higher aspirations. He is too young to retire from public service.

Yes he does! And until he announces it publicly I'm not commenting on it.

I've played paintball at a semi tournament level at a field run by a very christian fellow. If you cursed you were sent home, if there was any drinking or drug use, even in the parkinglot, you were banned.

I can testify that paintball is an excellent sport for youths and people who think otherwise are misinformed or not informed at all.
