Default Fresno County-Sheriff Mims

I just received an email from a friend and CCW instructor of mine:

To whom it may concern
Sheriff Mims has dropped the requirement that all weapons placed on Fresno County CCWs be on California's Not Un-Safe List.

Good news for those in Fresno...............

Sheriff Mims is very pro CCW, she was even on the news a couple months ago saying so and that she'll issue a CCW to anyone as long as they have a good moral character and a clean background.

I'm in Madera County, where its even easier.

Ditto just the way it oughtta be.........

I have a friend in Fresno who is going through the motions as we speak and he's very optimistic that he'll get his.

Maybe now they'll be some Good people armed in Fresno instead of all those gangbangers they profile in the news every week

I too have many friends with Fresno permits and they will be thrilled about dropping the DOJ list nonsense. But...Sheriff Anderson of Madera has it the way it should be.

I'm always puzzled by Sheriffs that talk big about being "shall issue" but throw up extra hurdles not required by state law such as three gun limits, gun inspections, DOJ lists, individual gun qualifications, restrictive good cause criteria, etc.

Someday maybe all jurisdictions will be as pro CCW as Madera County. Should certainly be our goal.

Madera and Mariposa are very much near shall issue. I personally know many people in that Area including 4 persons in Madera SO. Great program they have up your way.

Good to hear that Sheriff Mimms in a more populous county can still see fit to let honest citizens arm themselves.

Can someone please explain the benefits of being able to add a non DOJ listed gun?

Thanks

Older guns that existed prior to the list.

Currently that list has 1,323 guns on it
Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale - Firearms Division - California Dept. of Justice - Office of the Attorney General

There are thousands more not on that list.

So the way I understand it the main benefit of being able to add non listed guns would be for someone who has older guns that they wish to carry.

Other than those guns, I ask how one would own a non listed gun if they cannot be purchased in this state?

Non-listed guns cannot be purchased NEW in this state. They can be purchased through private party transfers (PPTs) from someone who already lives in this state and legally has it (e.g., buy a previously owned firearm). I know, some of us can't understand the concept of selling a gun once we have purchased it, but I hear some people actually do sell guns they no longer desire to own.

Purchased through private party transfers (PPTs), do they still have to go through FFL dealers??

A new resident coming into the state may want to sell a non roster gun, that is AFTER they have registered it in this state. Law Enforcement can also buy a non roster gun. Most do not sell those though.
