Default El Dorado BOS Approves Reolution

The El Dorado BOS approved by a 5-0 vote the resolution that CCW be no more restrictive than California State Law. They made a bunch of changes to the advisory resolution before voting and will revisit Good Cause definitions to be less restrictive.

Very full for El Dorado. About 75 people.

Stay with the efforts. I hope you end up with a Sheriff who issues for personal protection for GC and no other requirements to muck up the process.

Because of the current administration and economy the CCW issue has become highly visible nation wide. Hopefully this trickles down to California as well.

Hopefully, you have a Sheriff who is more willing to listen to the BOS.

Default BOS Vote & Observations

Passed Amended Resolution 5-0 but the BOS will take it up again at next meeting. Defining Good Cause will be a topic. None opposed the theory of Self-defense for good cause, only the language of the resolution.

They were shocked how many people came out on it and that there was a CCW forum scheduled this Thurs 6pm at Fairgrounds.

Knight- Dist I
Thought it was sloppy and needed to be re-written

Nutting- Dist II
Proposed Resolution
Kept quiet till end
Defended the "Rush" to get a vote as this has been simmering for quite a while and there is never a good time.

Sweeney- Dist III
Authored a similar resolution in the 80's
Made all the changes to the paraphrased 2A, & Constitution
Professes to be well read on Constitutional Law

Briggs, Chairman- Dist IV
Supports a resolution because Sheriff has gone to furthest extreme
Didn't add much to discussion on vote, only proceedural

Santiago-Dist V
Thought 2A doesn't guarantee Self Defense, or at least is subjective
Does not want to go to Shall Issue
Took a 4 point buck with 30-06 when she was 4 months pregnant
But is toughest vote on board for CCW
Voted "Yes, but reluctantly". Bad language but a tool to instruct the Sheriff.

Lots of good speakers. Many older residents who recently lost their CCW.

The Sheriff candidates who I recognized at meeting:
Larry Hennick- Attended and spoke
Robert “Bob” Luca- Attended
John D’Agostini- Under Sheriff running mate attended and spoke

Did not notice in attendance: (may have missed them)

Ernest “Ernie” Hillman
George Nielson
Stan Perez
Craig Therkildsen

I am pleased this issue is getting center stage attention--far too long it has been brushed under the carpet.

Of the two that spoke, can you tell us what the gist of their comments were?

I have lived in El Dorado Co since 1975 and thought I would never live to see this day. Incredible and awesome!! Supervisor Santiago should do some research and self education on 2A.

Does the Sheriff of that county have to follow their resolutions or do they have no power over the Sheriff like here in OC? It's nice to hear that their BOS is so supportive of CCW, like here in OC. I can't imagine a Sheriff that would defy the BOS on one of their resolutions and actually expect to keep their job come election time.

The resolution is not binding but it sends a very powerfull message the Sheriff's way.

Larry Hennick- At podium, announced that he was in support of the non-binding resolution. Larry talked about his time living in El Dorado County. He also said that he was one of the Sheriff candidates. Very brief. Said some other comments on the verbage but it didn't stick in my mind.

Robert “Bob” Luca- Attended but did not speak. At break did a meet and greet but I jammed back to work.

John D’Agostini's- running mate Under Sheriff (Sorry, I forgot his name) He came to podium with Rob Charney (President of el Dorado Rod & Gun Club). Charney authored the resolution from the Orange County model. Both spoke as to the importance of the right for a CCW and the changes in the process. Spoke that the lame duck sheriff reverted to his beliefs since he doesnt have to worry about re-election.

A good reminder that the work being done in OC DOES reverberate around the state.
