Default Official word on carrying on BART

I did a search before posting this, and didn't see any definitive information on carrying while riding BART.

After much searching (yet not much finding) on BART's website, I'd all but given up hope on finding a solid answer regarding carrying on BART. As a last ditch effort, I filled out a customer inquiry form on the website. I honestly didn't expect a response, but a few weeks later, I received the following reply from Gary Gee, chief of BART police:

Quote:
Dear Mr. Crider:

Anyone who is authorized or licensed to carry a concealed firearm in California may do so on any public-transit system.

Sincerely,

Gary Gee
Chief of Police
I'm sorry if this is common knowledge, but I had a heck of a time finding any info on BART's policy. Hopefully this helps someone else with the same questions I had

Thanks for doing the legwork. That's good news, especially for the bay area.

It takes time to formulate a PC answer.

Good job, thank you for the info. I never thought to ask when I ride. I do assume that about half the fellows aboard in the east bay are packing anyway.

That's news to me. Can you cite references supporting that claim?

It is Amtrak policy not Law, that no weapons be carried on board unless you are an LEO.

I haven't been on an Amtrak in a long time, but last time there weren't any metal detectors, but that may have changed since 911.

I would avoid the hassel and not CCW, you might end up walking home, but at least you will have your CCW then
